Until the evening of September 6, Mr. N.B. Q. V (Phong Dien commune, Can Tho city) had just picked up a few 9th grade textbooks to prepare for his younger brother to enter the new school year 2026 - 2027.
I'm so happy, for now I have Literature, Informatics and some minor subjects for my younger brother in the first week of school," Mr. V. shared.
Previously, Mr. V.'s family had "hunted" to buy books throughout Can Tho City from August but failed.
By noon on September 7, in a quick exchange with reporters, Mr. V. said that he had continued to go to a few more large and small bookstores in the city with the hope of finding the book he could.
Everywhere is'out of stock'. Now the subjects that are still missing such as Math, History and Geography,... I will continue to look for them this week, otherwise I will have to let him use photocopied books," Mr. V. added.

Similarly, to date, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (Binh Thuy ward, Can Tho city) has not bought enough 10th grade textbooks for her child.
Ms. Lien said that initially, due to waiting for the results of the 10th grade entrance exam to determine the school and corresponding set of books, the family did not rush to buy. Unexpectedly, when the results were available, bookstores simultaneously announced that they were out of stock.
Now my child is still short of books for 3 subjects, I know this is a common situation, so I don't complain anything, I just hope that publishers will soon supply enough so that the children's studies can go smoothly," Ms. Lien expressed.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Sanh (Cai Rang ward, Can Tho city) hopes that in the first week of school, his children will mainly be helped by teachers to get used to the learning environment again.
Currently, there are no exams, so my child can temporarily use photocopied books or share textbooks with friends. I hope the school and teachers do not create pressure to buy them immediately so that parents have more time to search," Mr. Sanh confided.

In general, the pressure of a shortage of textbooks at the beginning of the 2026 - 2027 school year in Can Tho City has cooled down significantly, currently only being localized in some subjects and areas.
At noon on September 7, Ms. Nguyen Le Thu Thuan - Vice Principal of Ninh Kieu Secondary School (Tran Hung Dao branch) - said that most students of the school had fully prepared textbooks and school supplies before entering the new school year.
Right from the end of the 2025 - 2026 school year, the school has announced and shared a link for parents to register to buy books. The plan is that if parents have needs, the school will support buying books; or parents can also proactively buy books outside.
However, there are still a few students who have not bought enough due to slow preparation. For these cases, schools and teachers create favorable conditions, without putting pressure on having enough books from the early days.
For new students entering the school, such as 6th grade students, the school must re-statistics them right from the beginning of the school year to determine cases that need support. Students who are policy beneficiaries have been reviewed by the school and supported according to regulations.
According to Ms. Thuan, the locality is also statistically counting children in difficult circumstances who need to be supported with textbooks. The school is compiling a list to summarize and report.
