At the end of the registration period for the 6th grade competency assessment survey for the 2026-2027 school year, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (HCMC) said it had received about 4,200 applications.
With a target of 350 students, this year's competition ratio is about 1/12, meaning that on average, 1 out of 12 students registered for the survey will be admitted. This level is slightly lower than in 2025 (1/13.8), but still belongs to the highest group in many years.
According to statistics, the competition ratio for grade 6 of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (from 2023 and before, Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School) is trending upwards.
In 2025, the school enrolled 350 students but had up to 4,851 candidates registered for the survey. The competition ratio reached 1/13.8 - the highest level in the 2018 period to date.
Previously, in 2024, the school recorded 4,301 candidates registering for 350 quotas, corresponding to a competition ratio of about 1/12.
These are 3 years that the school has a sudden high level of competition compared to previous years. The main reason is that the enrollment quota has decreased from about 525-535 students per year to 350 students since 2024, while the number of registered students is still maintained at a high level. This is also the first phase that the school operates with a new model after being separated from Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School.
In the period 2018-2023, the competition ratio for admission to the school, although always at a high level, is relatively stable, fluctuating from July 1st to September 1st. In 2021 alone, the school implemented admission consideration instead of surveys due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The capacity assessment survey of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School consists of two parts. The multiple-choice part has 20 questions, the test time is 30 minutes. The essay part lasts 60 minutes, assessing English proficiency (hearing comprehension, reading comprehension, writing in English), mathematics and logical thinking, along with reading comprehension and writing in Vietnamese.
In addition to Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, in the 2026-2027 school year, Ho Chi Minh City also has 4 other secondary schools enrolling grade 6 students through surveys, including: Hoa Lu Secondary School (Tang Nhon Phu ward), Binh Tho Secondary School (Thu Duc ward), Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School (Binh Trung ward) and Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School (Tam Thang ward).
The 6th grade competency assessment survey in schools will take place simultaneously on July 1. The results are expected to be announced on July 7.
