Ho Chi Minh City has issued a framework plan for the 2026-2027 school year and subsequent school years for preschool education, general education and continuing education in the area.
Accordingly, general education and continuing education institutions return to school on August 24th every year; especially first and last grades return to school on August 17th.
At the primary level, 1st and 5th grade students return to school on August 17; the remaining classes return to school on August 24. At the secondary level, 6th and 9th grade students return to school on August 17, while other grades start from August 24. For high school, 10th and 12th grade students return to school on August 17; the remaining grades return to school on August 24.
The school year opening ceremony is held on September 5th. Semester 1 starts from September 1st and must ensure 18 weeks of actual study; semester 2 starts from January 10th, ensuring 17 weeks of actual study.
Thus, the entire school year must ensure 35 weeks of actual study, including 18 weeks of semester I and 17 weeks of semester 2. The school year is completed before May 31 every year, while semester 1 ends before January 18.
