The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) has just issued a document guiding dossiers and procedures for transferring schools, applying for re-study and preserving academic results for primary, secondary, high school students and multi-level high schools from the 2026-2027 school year.
According to the guidance, students transferring schools in Ho Chi Minh City or from other localities to Ho Chi Minh City must belong to one of the cases such as moving residence with parents or guardians; having particularly difficult family circumstances or other legitimate reasons.
The school transfer dossier includes a school transfer application, a summary of academic and training results, and a personal education plan for disabled students (if any).
A noteworthy point is that parents or students can submit school transfer applications through the Public Service Portal at the address chuyentruong. hcm. edu. vn. In case it cannot be done online, applications can be submitted directly, online or by post.
For transfer schools in Ho Chi Minh City, the receiving school must notify the results of acceptance or refusal within a maximum of 5 working days from the date of receipt of the application. If accepted, the school will organize exchanges, surveys, counseling and class arrangements for students within a maximum of 5 working days afterwards.
For students transferred to Ho Chi Minh City from other provinces and cities or Vietnamese students returning from abroad, the maximum consideration time for admission is 8 working days.
The Department of Education and Training also stipulates that the transfer from private high schools to public high schools is only considered in some special cases such as students moving to areas without suitable private schools or with equivalent conditions.
In addition to transferring schools, the document also guides the procedures for applying for re-study for students who are still within the prescribed age but have been absent from school for a period of time, as well as procedures for preserving academic results for students who have to be absent from school due to health reasons or going abroad to settle down and study.
