On September 26, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen - Principal of Hai Thuong Primary School (Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province) - said that regarding the issue of fees collected at the beginning of the school year, the school held a meeting with representatives of the parents' associations of each class.
“At this meeting, most of the parents’ association representatives agreed with the fees, because these fees are implemented by the school according to the guidance documents of Nghi Son town. Only the fee for extra hours is still a concern for parents, but the school has confirmed that it will not collect this fee,” Ms. Yen informed.
Ms. Yen also added that because the school implemented the collection according to the instructions of Nghi Son town, after the incident occurred, parents raised questions, the school quickly reported to the town. After that, the town's functional department checked and found no problem, so the functional department did not come to verify at the school anymore.
Although the Principal of Hai Thuong Primary School confirmed the above, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen The Anh - Chairman of Nghi Son Town People's Committee - said that he had only just learned about the incident.
"I will direct the town's functional department to review the above incident and provide specific information later" - Mr. The Anh shared.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, after the parent meeting on September 14, many parents with children studying at Hai Thuong Primary School, Nghi Son town expressed "fear" about the fees at the beginning of the school year.
According to parents, among nearly 20 fees, with a total amount of nearly 5 million VND, the fee for additional sessions (15,000 VND/session) is not in accordance with regulations. In addition, the school organizes teaching of English and Life Skills programs (collecting an additional 10,000 VND/student/session) which is overlapping and also incorrect.
The representative of Hai Thuong Primary School said that most of the above fees were implemented by the school in accordance with regulations and guidance documents of Nghi Son Town People's Committee. Only the fee for extra hours was not implemented by the school and did not collect money from students.
After the incident, the school asked a homeroom teacher (grade 2) to write a self-criticism for implementing and announcing the extra session fee against regulations.
