Regarding the incident where parents of Hai Thuong Primary School, Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province were "scared" by the fees collected at the beginning of the new school year, speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen - Principal of Hai Thuong Primary School - said that on September 23, the school will hold a meeting with the parent association to convey more information about the fees.
According to Ms. Yen, the school's policy is to have extra classes (extra sessions) to supplement the students. The school has informed the homeroom teachers that they are not allowed to collect money. However, a homeroom teacher (grade 2) still implemented and announced this fee.
"Immediately afterwards, the school asked this teacher to write a self-criticism and take responsibility for her wrongdoings," Ms. Yen informed.
The principal of Hai Thuong Primary School added that the school will still implement other fees because this is according to the guidance document of Nghi Son town.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, after the parent meeting on September 14, many parents with children studying at Hai Thuong Primary School, Nghi Son town expressed "fear" about the fees at the beginning of the new school year announced by the homeroom teachers.
According to parents, among nearly 20 fees, with a total amount of nearly 5 million VND, the fee for additional sessions (15,000 VND/session) is not in accordance with regulations. In addition, the school's organization of teaching English and Life Skills programs (charging an additional 10,000 VND/student/session) is also incorrect.
Regarding the collection fees, the representative of Hai Thuong Primary School said that most of the above collection fees were implemented by the school in accordance with regulations and instructions from Nghi Son Town People's Committee. Only the collection fee for extra hours was not implemented by the school and did not collect money from students.
