According to the Capital Transport Planning to 2030, with a vision to 2050, Hanoi will have 18 bridges over the Red River to meet traffic needs as well as inter-regional traffic connections.
Hanoi capital is oriented to develop into a modern urban area with one of the special central spatial axes running along the Red River. To realize that orientation, the Red River overpass system has an extremely important meaning and role.
Speaking about socio-economic issues of interest to voters at the Hanoi People's Council meeting on December 11, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that the city is focusing on developing transport infrastructure with a plan to build a total of 18 bridges across the river.
Currently, 8 bridges have been invested in construction, the city plans to build 9 new bridges. According to the plan, by applying the new Capital Law, some important bridges such as Tu Lien Bridge and Ngoc Hoi Bridge will be started in the first half of 2025.
The investment project to build Tu Lien bridge and the road from Tu Lien bridge to Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway is implemented under the EPC contract (design, procurement of materials, equipment, construction).
The bridge construction site will be located between Nhat Tan Bridge and Long Bien Bridge, connecting Yen Phu and Tu Lien wards (Tay Ho District) with Dong Anh District; connecting from the planned urban main road along Huu Hong Dike with National Highway 5 extension, in Tay Ho District, Long Bien District and Dong Anh District.
It is expected that in January 2025, the City People's Committee will submit the investment policy to the competent authority for appraisal and approval. The total investment of Tu Lien Bridge is tentatively estimated at 19,959 billion VND.
Ngoc Hoi Bridge and the two approach roads are being built with public investment capital from Hanoi City, Hung Yen Province and support from the Central Government.
According to the roadmap, the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture is assigned to advise and propose to the city to organize a competition for the architectural plan of the main bridge across the Red River, and report to the City People's Committee in December 2024.
In January 2025, the city will submit to the competent authority to organize appraisal and approval of the investment policy.
The starting point of Ngoc Hoi bridge connects with the end point of Ring Road 3.5 project (section from Phuc La, Van Phu to Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway), the end point connects with Ring Road 3.5 in Van Giang district, Hung Yen province.
The project has a total estimated investment of 11,700 billion VND, a total length of about 7.5km, a cross-section of 80m (60m from the left dike to the end of the route), and a design speed of 80km/h.
As Lao Dong reported, Hanoi is also preparing to invest in the construction of the Ring Road 3.5 project, from Phuc La - Van Phu to Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, 10km long, with a total investment of more than 8,500 billion VND.
The route is invested and designed with the scale of an urban main road, speed 80 km/h, cross-section from 60-80m.
The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027, helping to reduce traffic congestion on Ring Road 3, strengthen connections with Ngoc Hoi Bridge and facilitate inter-regional traffic connections with the eastern provinces of Hanoi.
