On the evening of August 29, Mr. Vo Quang Quoc - Deputy Director of Lien Khuong International Airport (HKQT) said that after more than 5 months of suspension to repair the runway and taxiway, the airport has resumed operations from August 19, 2026.
According to Mr. Quoc, from August 19 - 26, Lien Khuong International Airport served 230 take-offs and landings, with about 39,000 passengers and 76 tons of goods, mail, and luggage. The rate of flights departing on time reached 100%, without any incidents threatening safety.
During this time, the Port coordinates with state management agencies, air traffic management units, airlines and service providers to coordinate operations, ensure security, safety and service quality.
Notably, functional forces prevented 2 cases of kite flying in the area bordering the airspace at the beginning of the runway.
Inspection and collection of foreign objects on runways, taxiways and aprons have also been strengthened.
On the occasion of National Day September 2nd, the peak period of passenger service at Lien Khuong International Airport is determined from August 28th to September 3rd.
The expected number of visitors will increase by about 20-30% compared to the first week of resumption.
Peak operating output is expected to reach 36 - 40 flights, serving about 7,000 - 8,500 passengers.
The port requires units to maintain 24/7 on-duty forces, proactively use vehicles, equipment and spare materials to handle arising situations.
Along with that, the airport will strengthen airfield inspections 4 times/day and surprise inspections; strictly control static airspace, prevent UAVs, fly kites, shine laser lights and proactively respond to bad weather.
Lien Khuong International Airport also coordinates with the police force, port authority and related units to strengthen security control, belt fences, ensuring safe and smooth operation during the holidays.
