The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just submitted a document to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Party Committee for consideration and approval to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to issue a decision on the establishment of the Steering Committee for the development of the Ho Chi Minh City urban railway network system.
This is to ensure the progress and quality of metro implementation according to urgent requirements from the Conclusion of the Politburo and Resolution 188 of the National Assembly.
According to the proposal, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen will hold the role of Head of the Committee. Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc is the Standing Deputy Head of the Committee.
Other Deputy Heads of the Committee include: Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi; Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le; Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Phuoc Loc.
The Steering Committee also has 20 members who are leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and related departments and branches.
The Steering Committee will directly direct the implementation of Resolution 188, develop specific mechanisms and policies to develop the metro system. At the same time, issue operating regulations, provide strategic orientations to ensure progress, and solve difficulties in project implementation.
Another important task of the Steering Committee is to propose solutions to protect and encourage cadres and civil servants to be responsible and creative in project implementation. At the same time, propose a form of reward and appointment to higher positions for leaders of departments, branches, districts and towns with outstanding achievements.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will act as the standing agency of the Steering Committee, using existing personnel to perform tasks.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is also authorized to establish working groups, invite domestic and international experts to research, discuss, and propose solutions for implementation.
According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City will invest in the construction of 7 metro lines with a total length of 355 km from now until 2035, in order to increase the public passenger transport rate to meet 40-50% of travel needs.
In the next phase, from 2035 to 2045, Ho Chi Minh City will expand the network by 155 km, bringing the total length of the metro system to 510 km.
Ho Chi Minh City plans to start construction of Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) in December 2025.
The entire route is more than 11 km long, of which 9.2 km is underground, the rest is elevated and the road leading to Tham Luong depot (District 12). The project includes 9 underground stations and 1 elevated station.
