On August 14, 2024, the 2024 National Golf Championship, VinFast Cup - Hai Phong officially opened at Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong, marking the return of one of the most important golf tournaments of the year.
The event brings together 150 top golfers, including 120 golfers in the men's group and 30 golfers in the women's group. In particular, this year's tournament attracts the participation of the best golfers from both professional and amateur tables.
Among the 120 golfers participating in the men's group, there are 81 professional golfers and 39 amateur golfers, including prominent names such as defending champion Nguyen Nhat Long and other top golfers such as Nguyen Huu Quyet, Truong Chi Quan and Doan Van Dinh.
For the women's group, 30 athletes include 9 professional golfers and 21 amateur golfers, with typical faces such as Ngo Bao Nghi, Nguyen Thao My, Nguyen Thi Van Anh, and outstanding amateur golfers such as Cuong reigning women's champion Le Chuc An and Doan Xuan Khue Minh.
This year's tournament also has the participation of young golfers, most notably Nguyen Khanh Linh, only 11 years old, and 27 athletes from the National Team.
The tournament takes place in stroke play format over four rounds of 18 holes (72 holes total), with a cut after 36 holes. For the men's group, only the 50 golfers with the best results and ties can continue to compete, while the women's group has only 12 players who pass the qualifying round.
The total prize fund is up to 1.2 billion VND, with 1 billion VND for the men's division and 200 million VND for the women's division.
A special highlight of this year's tournament is the Hole In One Award at the par 3 holes, with the VinFast VF9 car being the first golfer to achieve this award throughout the four days of competition.
Journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Co-Head of the Organizing Committee, gave the opening speech of the tournament, emphasizing: "The National Golf Championship is constantly growing, not only in scale but also in quality." . This is the foundation to discover, foster and develop Vietnamese golf talent, aiming to reach an international level."
He also said that the course is designed with increased length and difficulty, challenging golfers to prepare carefully and handle situations best.
