On July 18, in Hanoi, Hai Phong City People's Committee, Department of Sports and Physical Training, Tien Phong Newspaper, and Vietnam Golf Association jointly held a press conference to announce the 2024 National Golf Championship, VinFast - Hai Phong Cup.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Co-Head of the Tournament Organizing Committee - said: "The National Golf Championship is a tournament with a long history since 2005. Every year , the professional level of the tournament is getting higher and higher, the scale is larger, the highest award in the system of professional awards.
The 2024 National Golf Championship brings together 150 golfers. Like the previous two seasons, along with hosting the tournament, Hai Phong city and Tien Phong Newspaper continued to organize a series of historical and cultural events on the sidelines of the tournament such as gratitude ceremonies, commemorating heroes, Martyrs of the Unnumbered Train at K15 Do Son Station; Workshop "Hai Phong - social housing bright spot"; Launching ceremony of the movement to plant forests and protect Hai Phong mangrove forests...
With the wishes of the organizers, this year's tournament must first be the pinnacle of Vietnamese sports with attractiveness and fierce competition, promoting the development of the golf community. In addition, we have another important responsibility which is to contribute to promoting the culture, history, life, society and economy of Hai Phong city."
The 2024 National Golf Championship brings together 150 golfers (120 men and 30 women) competing through 4 rounds of 18 holes (total 72 holes) at Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong (Vu Yen, Hai Phong).
At the ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi To Trang - Director of Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports - said: "This is the third time the tournament has been held in Hai Phong. Besides developing the golf movement, the championship National Golf 2024 also contributes to promoting the image and people of the Port city, its potential for economic and tourism development, creating opportunities to promote comprehensive development."
Regarding professional work, Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong - Deputy General Secretary of Vietnam Golf Association - said that the tournament is organized in stroke play format through four (4) rounds of 18 holes (total 72 holes), Among them, 40 male golfers and 12 female golfers were selected to pass the cut after the first 2 rounds.
In addition, the tournament limits the maximum handicap for amateur players to 5.0 (men) and 10.0 (women). The tournament will have a 36-hole elimination, thereby selecting 40 male golfers and 12 female golfers with the best results and ties, to continue competing for the championship. The men's and women's group champions are the ones with the lowest gross points.
Regarding prizes, the 2024 National Golf Championship has a prize fund of up to 1.2 billion VND. Of which, 1 billion VND is for the men's table and 200 million VND is for the women's table.
