The first day of competition of the 2024 National Golf Championship, Vinfast Cup - Hai Phong, officially opened at Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong with the participation of 150 athletes.
In unfavorable weather conditions with rain and light wind, golfers faced many challenges throughout round 1.
At the end of the competition day, Nguyen Duc Son is currently leading the men's rankings, while Nguyen Viet Gia Han is at the top of the women's rankings. Both young golfers from the National Team finished the first round with 70 strokes, total score (-2).
In the men's group, Nguyen Duc Son had an impressive performance when scoring 7 birdies, including holes where he made 3 consecutive birdies at holes 12, 13 and 14.
Despite having 1 bogey and 2 double bogeys, his results were still enough to help him lead the rankings with a total score of (-2). In an unfortunate situation, Nguyen Duc Son almost scored a hole in one in hole number 4, but the ball hit the flagstick and "flew" out.
The next positions in the men's table respectively belong to Pham The Nam with a score of (-1), Nguyen Tuan Anh with a score of E, Nguyen Chi Thanh with a score of (+1) and Nguyen Ngoc Bao and Doan Uy are tied for 5th place with a score of (+2).
In the women's group, Nguyen Viet Gia Han also achieved (-2) strokes to take the lead. This young athlete made 3 birdies and only had 1 bogey at hole 18.
The next positions in the women's table belong to Le Chuc An with point E, Ngo Vinh Hoa with point (+2), Nguyen Thao My with point (+3), and Le Thi Thanh Thuy with point (+4).
The 2024 National Golf Championship returns with attractive prizes, with a total prize fund of up to 1.2 billion VND, of which 1 billion VND is for the men's division and 200 million VND for the women's division.
In particular, the Hole In One award at par 3 holes will give the first golfer to win this award a VinFast VF9 car.
The tournament takes place in stroke play format over four rounds of 18 holes (72 holes total), with a cut after 36 holes. For the men's group, only the 50 golfers with the best results and ties can continue to compete, while the women's group has only 12 players who pass the qualifying round.
The 2024 National Golf Championship, Vinfast Cup - Hai Phong will continue to take place until August 17.
