At this time, walking along the central streets of Can Tho City such as 3/2, Nguyen Van Linh, Mau Than..., many shops and kiosks selling moon cakes have hung signs offering discounts and promotions when buying and getting free gifts.
According to records, mooncakes displayed at stores and kiosks are familiar brands such as Kinh Do, Nhu Lan, Dong Khanh... The selling price ranges from 45,000 - 80,000 VND/cake for retail, and 250,000 - 450,000 VND/box of cake.
Coming to a mooncake shop on 3/2 Street (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City), the shop owner, Ms. Kim Trang, said that this year's purchasing power has decreased by about 30% compared to last year. Due to importing a lot of goods, the shop has reduced prices early to push goods, fearing that there will be excess inventory.
To attract customers, many stalls also offer promotions such as 20 - 40% discounts, buy a box of 4 cakes for 250,000 VND and get a lantern for free, buy 1 get 1 free...
At the store of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuong Van (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city), although the goods were imported nearly a month ago, only 1/3 of them have been sold.
"Compared to previous years, most stores have early promotions to attract customers because they are afraid of losing sales. The batch of goods I imported is mainly for retail, priced from 45,000 - 80,000 VND/cake, the capital investment was 15 million VND but now I have only recovered nearly 5 million VND," said Ms. Van.
In contrast to the gloom of the mooncake market, the appeal of Labubu lanterns being sought after this year has helped Ms. Van somewhat recover her previous investment.
"In the past few days, Labubu lanterns have been sought after by many people, so I also imported some to try selling. The price ranges from 20,000 - 35,000 VND/piece, and they sell very well, so I took the opportunity to sell more online to recover my capital," said Ms. Van.
According to a survey conducted by PV on social media platforms, in addition to traditional lanterns, Labubu lanterns are now widely sold. With a cheap price, from 20,000 to 25,000 VND/piece, as well as being associated with the Labubu fever , many people are hunting for them during this year's Mid-Autumn Festival.
