Unexpectedly, 2 spacious markets in Da Nang are deserted

Da Nang - Despite being spacious, An Hai Dong and Phuoc My markets are all in the same situation, lacking customers, many stalls are closed in large numbers.

According to Lao Dong reporters, Phuoc My market, An Hai Dong (Da Nang city) has been continuously deserted in recent times, with many stalls closing simultaneously.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc (character's name has been changed, business household in Phuoc My market) - said that despite being invested in building spacious, Phuoc My market has recently fallen into a state of disrepair. Especially the stalls on the 2nd floor are closed and vacant, with only a few buyers.

According to Mr. Phuc, the prolonged lack of customers has caused traders to continuously return their stalls, and the number of empty stalls at the market is increasing.

Similarly, the entire market is about 3,000m2 wide but there is not a single person passing by on the 2nd floor, Ms. Tran Thi Loan (a trader at An Hai Dong market) can only sit on her phone and watch entertainment programs to relieve her sadness.

According to Ms. Loan, having been doing business here for many years, since the planning date to the 2nd floor of the trading floor, many traders like her have gradually lost customers. The stalls here are therefore constantly closed, they have to stop selling to work elsewhere.

"There are nearly 100 stalls on the 2nd floor, but now there are only a few dozen households still staying. It is so sad that some traders here sit and pick up vegetables, others watch their phones" - Ms. Loan said.

Talking with Lao Dong, a representative of the An Hai Ward Public Service Supply Center (in charge of managing An Hai Dong market) - informed that in the past, the unit has had solutions to develop the market system until 2030 but is currently facing some shortcomings.

An Hai Dong market is located in a small alley, while many consumers have shifted to the habit of going to supermarkets and doing business online. Not only that, most of the traders in the market also face great competition from street vendors, areas near the market...

According to Mr. Ho Tan Phuoc - Deputy Director of the Public Service Supply Center of An Hai Ward (Da Nang City) - according to the Project "orientation for market development in Son Tra District until 2030", the second floor of An Hai Dong Market will be researched, renovated, leased to develop entertainment and beauty services such as spa, yoga, club... to attract visitors to the market.

According to Mr. Ho Tan Phuoc, not only An Hai Dong market, many other markets after being built in Da Nang city such as Phuoc My market are also deserted, the second floor of the stalls are closed in large numbers.

"After the administrative unit merger, I have been to the field many times and have had ideas to pilot to attract customers to traditional markets. The market infrastructure is spacious but lacking highlights such as typical local products and specialties, OCOP products" - Mr. Ho Tan Phuoc said.
