Market spacious but deserted
The market is about 3,000m2 wide but lacking customers, which has been happening at An Hai Dong market in recent years. It is worth mentioning that there are currently only a few dozen households still doing business on the second floor, nearly 100 stalls.
Only sellers cannot find buyers, Ms. Tran Thi Ly (born in 1961, trading at An Hai Dong market) told the story that there were times when traders here could not sell anything for many consecutive days.
After working age, the inventory is getting hoarded, so Ms. Ly has no longer had to stay here with the hope of recovering capital, earning a few dong to spend, and improving her life.

According to many traders in An Hai Dong market, since the new market was built, many businesses on the 2nd floor have continuously abandoned stalls due to sluggish business and lack of customers. Those who are still here are all past working age, and the opportunity to find a new job is gradually narrowing.
Mr. Tran Dinh (defender of An Hai Dong market, Da Nang) informed that the market is about 3,000m2 wide and currently has about 280 business households. Recently, many traders, especially the second floor area, have been forced to close their stalls and abandon their stalls due to business sluggish conditions.
Traditional markets are fading, lacking attraction
Once a bustling market, according to a survey by Mr. Ho Tan Phuoc - Deputy Director of the Public Service Supply Center of An Hai Ward (Da Nang City), since its establishment in 2012, An Hai Dong market has been increasingly deserted.
What makes Mr. Phuoc most regretful is that An Hai Dong market is located between two small alleys, a location that is not convenient for people to move, while surrounding shops are selling goods all over the road.
According to the Project "orientation for market development in Son Tra district until 2030", the second floor of An Hai Dong market will be researched, renovated, leased to develop entertainment and beauty services such as spa, yoga, club... to attract visitors to the market.

"After the administrative unit merger, I have been to the field many times and have had ideas to pilot to attract customers to traditional markets. The market infrastructure is spacious but lacking in highlights such as typical products, local specialties, and OCOP products.
The initial effect of attracting customers is very important. Sometimes, just for a glass of butter cream, tourists and people in Da Nang can travel dozens of kilometers to traditional markets to enjoy it because this dish is not as delicious as it is anywhere else" - Mr. Ho Tan Phuoc said.
