Ben Tre aims for 4,000 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming

Ben Tre - Oriented to develop to the East, Ben Tre sets a specific goal of developing 4,000 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming by the end of 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Vo Nhat Duy - Acting Head of Planning and Finance Division (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ben Tre province) - said that in the first 9 months of 2024, the high-tech shrimp farming industry of Ben Tre province earned 532 million USD. Accumulated from 2021 to present, the high-tech shrimp farming industry has earned 1,758 billion USD.

According to Mr. Duy, Ben Tre province has developed 3,509 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming, reaching 87.73% of the plan for the 2021 - 2025 period. Of which, Binh Dai reached 1,754 hectares, Thanh Phu 1,328 hectares and Ba Tri 427 hectares. The average annual output of high-tech shrimp farming reached 50,000 tons/year, accounting for 50% of the province's brackish water shrimp output.

"Ben Tre's agricultural sector has also coordinated with processing enterprises and consulting units to help farmers comply with import market standards," said Mr. Duy.

Mr. Nguyen Van Buoi - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ben Tre province - said that according to the development orientation of the shrimp farming industry of Ben Tre province, by the end of 2025, the whole province strives to have at least 4,000 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming, with an output of 120,000 tons. At the same time, high-tech shrimp farming must bring high efficiency and sustainability, contributing to economic development and increasing income for farmers.

According to Mr. Buoi, the locality has 36,000 hectares of potential for shrimp farming development, and has so far developed nearly 12,000 hectares of intensive shrimp farming. Regarding high-tech shrimp, the whole province has developed in 3 districts: Ba Tri, Binh Dai and Thanh Phu. Currently, Ben Tre is focusing on calling for investment in shrimp processing factories to contribute to the consumption of raw shrimp products of the province and serve exports...

In order to attract investment in the development of the shrimp industry in Ben Tre province, in the coming 2 days (October 2-3, 2024), Ben Tre province will organize the 2024 Investment Promotion Conference to call for priority investment in 32 projects. Of which, calling for investment in 4 projects in the agricultural and rural sectors including: Seafood processing factory under the storm shelter anchorage project for fishing vessels combined with Ba Tri fishing port (Tiem Tom town, Ba Tri district), High-tech shrimp farming area (An Dien commune, Thanh Phu district), Thanh Phu shrimp breeding center (An Thanh commune, Thanh Phu district) and Seafood processing factory, output of 20,000 tons/year (Thanh Phu fishing port, Thanh Phu district).

To attract investment in Ben Tre province, the locality will support compensation costs for site clearance up to 20% when investing in industrial cluster infrastructure and up to 30% when investing in industrial park infrastructure.

For investment projects in the three coastal districts of Ba Tri, Binh Dai and Thanh Phu, investors are entitled to a policy of land rent exemption for 11 years after the end of the basic construction period; the highest preferential corporate income tax rate is applied, which is 10% applied for the first 15 years, exemption for 4 years and 50% reduction of tax payable for the next 9 years.
