Coastal advantage attracts wind power projects
With a coastal length of about 72km, Can Tho City has favorable natural conditions for wind power development. Over the past time, many wind power projects have been invested and put into commercial operation such as Quoc Vinh Soc Trang, Lac Hoa (phase 1), Hoa Dong 2, Lac Hoa 2, Wind Power Plant No. 7... with a total capacity of about 340MW, contributing clean electricity to the national power system.
Recently, the Can Tho City Department of Finance also announced a list of 13 energy projects meeting the conditions according to Resolution No. 254/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly in the area. These projects meet investment conditions, distributed in many coastal localities and areas with wind advantages such as Vinh Hai commune, Vinh Chau ward, Vinh Phuoc ward, Xa Phien commune, Dai Ngai commune, Lai Hoa commune, Vinh Vien commune, Luong Tam commune, Long My ward, Long Phu 1 ward...
Can Tho City Department of Finance said that it has received registration dossiers for implementing many wind power projects and is implementing procedures for approving investment policies and selecting investors in accordance with legal regulations.
Among them, there are typical projects such as the wind power plant in the coastal area of Vinh Phuoc ward, Vinh Tan commune and the wind power plant in the protection forest area, alluvial ground of Vinh Hai commune, both with a designed capacity of 30MW to effectively exploit the wind energy potential of the coastal area, providing clean electricity, contributing to ensuring national energy security and promoting local socio-economic development. The interest of many domestic and foreign investors shows the increasing attraction of the renewable energy sector in Can Tho.

In December 2025, Can Tho City People's Committee will organize the groundbreaking ceremony of Wind Power Plant No. 7 phase 2. The project has a total investment of 3,728 billion VND, an installed capacity of about 90MW, and is expected to generate commercial electricity in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Mr. To Duy - Chairman of the Board of Directors of ST2 Energy Joint Stock Company - said that the project after completion will provide an average electricity output of about 271,198MWh/year, contributing to reducing the pressure of electricity shortage for the national power system, while creating more jobs, increasing budget revenue and promoting coastal economic development.
Towards sustainable energy security
Implementing Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW of the Politburo on ensuring national energy security to 2030, vision to 2045, the Can Tho City Party Committee has developed an Action Program to concretize the goals and tasks of energy development in the area.
Accordingly, by 2030, Can Tho City aims to firmly ensure energy security; fully, stably and with high quality meet energy needs to serve socio-economic development; and at the same time ensure national defense and security, improve people's lives and protect the ecological environment.

In the field of renewable energy and new energy, Can Tho focuses on accelerating the progress of wind power and solar power projects connected to the grid; strengthening propaganda and mobilizing people and businesses to develop rooftop solar power in the form of self-production and self-consumment. Can Tho prioritizes the use of wind and solar energy, encouraging development in regions and localities with advantages.
In addition, the city attracts and creates conditions for investors to research, survey, and deploy models of production and use of hydrogen energy, hydrogen and ammonia derivatives; promote offshore wind power exploitation, develop solar power associated with hydrogen and ammonia production.
