Earn tens of millions/day by selling unique fruits
As a trader at Lac Long Quan market (Tay Ho, Hanoi), Ms. Thuy Phuong said that her shop is always a popular place for customers during Tet holiday because it sells many special types of fruit, and buyers are willing to spend millions of dong on these fruits to decorate the altar.
“Currently, I sell two types of fruit, which are the Ky Da grapefruit and the Tien Vua grapefruit. My customers really like this giant grapefruit because it is very fragrant and can be displayed for a long time. The price of each Ky Da grapefruit will range from 500,000 - 1 million VND/fruit depending on size and weight.
During peak periods, there were years when I could sell more than a hundred fruits a day, earning 20 million VND/day or more was normal," Ms. Phuong shared.
According to Ms. Phuong, the reason why people like to buy Ky Da pomelos for Tet is because transporting the fruit from Tuyen Quang to Hanoi is difficult, it is easy to rot, so few people sell it, and the quantity of fruit is limited. The scarcity makes this specialty fruit even more attractive and sought after by many people.
To prepare for the upcoming offering tray to the Kitchen Gods, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong (Tay Ho, Hanoi) chose a satisfactory Ky Da grapefruit to display on the altar.
“I personally like unique and strange things, so I often display different types of fruit on the altar. Many people display grapefruit, but this grapefruit is more eye-catching, so I bought it. Not only me, playing with unique and strange fruits is a hobby of many people, especially during Tet. Although the price is higher than normal fruits, the unique beauty and meaning of a full and happy life in the new year will make many people willing to pay,” said Ms. Hong.
Besides, the Tien Vua grapefruit, sold at 130,000 - 150,000 VND/fruit at Ms. Phuong's store, is also of interest to many people because it tastes better, is sweeter and more beautiful than the usual white grapefruit.
Unique fruit business is bustling on the online market
Not only bustling at traditional markets, on many buying and selling groups on social networks, beautifully decorated grapefruits, shaped into gourds, gold bars... are also inquired by many people.
Ms. Thuy Linh, a fruit seller in Gia Lam, Hanoi, shared that customers increasingly tend to like fruits with engraved names and unique shapes to give as gifts or display during holidays.
"Customers often like grapefruits, melons or coconuts with the words Wealth, Prosperity, Happiness and Longevity written on them. Partly to create a highlight and increase the aesthetics of the offering tray, and partly to attract good luck to the family," Linh shared.
