“Dawn” at Sin Chai Primary School
At Sin Chai Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Sin Chai Commune, Tua Chua), students have had to study in temporary classrooms with corrugated iron roofs for more than 10 years.
Mr. Pham Huu Thanh, the school’s principal, said that during the rainy season, classrooms leak and floods flood, greatly affecting the teaching work of teachers and the learning of students. Several working groups have come to survey and record the difficult situation of the school, but the dream of a more spacious school has not yet come true.
However, in the 2024-2025 school year, a “miracle” came to teachers and students of Sin Chai Primary School when the school had an additional 3-storey building with 9 classrooms with full and modern facilities. The total value of this project is more than 6.7 billion VND.
“During the construction period, we encountered many difficulties and hardships because we were building during the rainy season. Moving materials was also a challenge. The new, spacious building is a meaningful gift that was put into use in time for the new school year. Now, every day at school is truly a happy day for the students,” Mr. Thanh said emotionally.
“I no longer worry about staying at school during storms.”
With a big smile, little girl Nguyen Thien Khue - a student at Phinh Giang Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Dien Bien Dong District, Dien Bien Province, eagerly shared with reporters about her new school.
“We are very happy with new classrooms, new schoolyards, new boards, new desks and chairs. My classmates love going to school even though they live far away. I am no longer worried about staying at school during storms. My parents also encourage me to study harder and be more obedient when I have a new school,” she said.
Similar to Sin Chai Primary School, Phinh Giang Primary School has just received a new classroom building with an investment value of over 5.7 billion VND.
Phinh Giang Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Phinh Giang Commune, is located in a particularly difficult commune and is among the most difficult communes in Dien Bien Dong District. Currently, the school has 30 teachers and staff, with 515 students who are children of ethnic minorities.
According to teachers, the school used to have 2 buildings, 15 classrooms, with 12 solid rooms and 3 temporary rooms... The temporary classrooms were only covered with corrugated iron and were cramped, making teaching and learning very difficult for teachers and students.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Hoanh, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of Dien Bien Dong District People's Committee, said that the new classroom building of Phinh Giang Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities after 6 months of construction has been inspected and evaluated by the district's professional department to ensure quality and safety; and has fully met the conditions for handover and put into use.
Up to now, the school has had 3 buildings, with 19 solid classrooms... basically ensuring the teaching and learning of teachers and students.
“Not only do we have solid classrooms and a spacious, clean schoolyard, but the new equipment also greatly supports the teaching of teachers and students at the school, meeting the requirements of educational innovation and training,” said Mr. Mua A De, a teacher at the school.
