On July 30, the People's Committee of Đắk Lắk Province announced that it had sent a notice to relevant agencies and units to manage the purchase and export activities of durian for the 2024 season.
Functional agencies and local authorities need to closely coordinate with the Regional Plant Quarantine Sub-Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the General Department of Customs... to closely monitor the export situation of durian to the Chinese market.
From there, the functional forces can promptly detect, coordinate to verify and clarify, and strictly handle individuals involved in "commercial fraud," "origin of goods," and "geographical indications," as well as units using planting area codes and durian packing facility codes for export that do not meet regulations...
In addition, businesses need to publicly disclose the planting area codes and durian packing codes approved by the General Department of Customs of China. They should form raw material areas associated with processing enterprises to ensure a closed process and shorten the time in export activities.
The People's Committee of Đắk Lắk Province requires relevant units to closely monitor the development of durian in the country and region... to forecast, advise, and inform people not to develop durian excessively. This could lead to the risk of supply exceeding demand, disrupting the planning of key crops in the province.
In an interview with Lao Động, Mr. Phạm Văn Hà - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Đắk Lắk Province - said that instead of "hot" development, increasing the area and output of durian, farmers should focus on improving the quality of crops.
Currently, the province has identified core areas for concentrated durian cultivation in 7 districts and towns. Farmers should not develop this agricultural product outside the planned areas.
Because durian trees are very sensitive to weather and have high investment costs, even a small incident can easily lead to losses. People must pay special attention to the residue of fertilizers and pesticides as required by the import market. The purpose of this is to avoid affecting the reputation of the local agricultural products.
