Long Son - Cai Mep project creates a breakthrough for logistics and industry

THÀNH AN |

The Long Son - Cai Mep route project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, thereby connecting the oil and gas industrial park with the deep-water seaport, promoting logistics and the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Accelerating the completion of connecting transport projects

In recent days, the Long Son - Cai Mep road project connecting Long Son commune to Tan Phuoc ward (HCMC) is entering the peak construction phase with many important items.

This project is invested by the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Regional and Agricultural Specialization Project Management Board (under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction), with a starting point connecting to Long Son Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Long Son commune), the end point intersecting with Road 991B (Tan Phuoc ward). With a total length of about 3.7km, the route connecting Long Son commune and Cai Mep - Thi Vai area has a total investment of more than 1,188 billion VND.

Regarding site clearance, the project has a total reclaimed area of 15.5 hectares, involving 71 households and 2 organizations. The People's Committee of Phu My City (formerly under Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) issued a decision to pay to 73 households/organization involved, basically completing the site clearance stage, creating favorable conditions for construction.

Started in June 2025, this is one of the key traffic projects, aiming to complete the traffic system connecting the Long Son area (where the petrochemical complex and industrial park are concentrated) and Cai Mep - Thi Vai (where seaports and logistics service centers are concentrated).

By the end of September 2025, the project has implemented 6 main construction packages; of which, package No. 39 (including Song Rang bridge and the bridgehead road) is under construction to install steel reinforcements, mold boards and pour concrete, reaching about 70% of the volume. Road packages 38, 40, 41, 42 have basically completed the roadbed.

Some items that have encountered difficulties in the implementation of construction (reducing the load on Nhu Dien canal, which is stuck with the 110kV power line provided to the Long Son petrochemical project) have now been handled, completed depositing and pouring concrete for the main items.

In addition, package No. 51 (the completion of the route) has also started construction since June 2025, currently reaching 80% of the volume of cement reinforced soil pillars; mobilizing materials for the construction of the drainage system. Thereby, the total value of the total project implementation volume has reached about 64% of the plan.

Promoting the development of logistics, trade and industry

Previously, the implementation of some packages was delayed, such as the Rang River Bridge package, the Road package, etc., partly due to the lack of roads to transport materials, leading to construction interruptions. This significantly affects the completion progress of the project. However, the progress has now been extended according to regulations.

At the same time, the investor has also directed contractors to change transportation plans, switch to using cargo ships and barges to transport construction materials, thereby contributing to speeding up progress.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tho - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - commented that the project not only has important significance in terms of transportation but also plays a key role in the economic development of the East of Ho Chi Minh City.

When completed and put into use, this route will connect two potential areas of Ho Chi Minh City, Long Son Oil and Gas Industrial Park and Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port system; shortening the distance from 25km to 8km, creating conditions to promote the development of logistics, trade and industry.

The Management Board of the Regional Traffic Project and the Agricultural Sector of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province said that it is urging contractors to increase construction teams; urging construction units to work in 3 shifts and 4 teams, ensuring the project is completed on schedule by the end of 2025. The project will be accepted and finalized in the first quarter of 2026.
