Grapefruit production decreased, price increased
According to information from Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, owner of a Dien grapefruit garden in Phuc Dien ward (Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi), this year grapefruit output has decreased by about 30% due to the impact of prolonged storms.
However, with 5 sao of grapefruit trees nearly 30 years old, Ms. Ngoc still hopes to harvest about 7,000 fruits. Of which, large grapefruits, from 0.8 to 1.2 kg, will be sold for about 50,000 VND/fruit, while smaller fruits will cost from 20,000 to 40,000 VND/fruit.
Sharing her expectations, Ms. Ngoc said: "Although the output has decreased, I still hope to earn about 150 million VND after deducting care costs. This is a positive sign in the context that this year is more difficult than previous years, when many grapefruit growers are facing natural disasters."
One of the factors that makes Dien grapefruit attractive is its superior quality compared to other grapefruit varieties. Dien grapefruit has a delicious, sweet and juicy flavor. After harvesting, Dien grapefruit can be stored for 2 to 3 months while still maintaining its freshness, and the grapefruit is even sweeter and more flavorful.
The quality of Dien grapefruit is not only loved by Hanoians but also a special gift during Tet. The plump, golden grapefruits often appear on the fruit trays of Hanoi families and are a symbol of prosperity and luck in the new year. In addition, many customers also order grapefruits in advance.
Difficult season still hopes for success
Despite difficulties caused by natural disasters, grapefruit growers in Phuc Dien still believe in a successful crop.
Ms. Tran Thi Tan, a long-time grapefruit grower in Bac Tu Liem district, shared: "This year, although the yield is not as high as in previous years, the demand for grapefruit during Tet is still very high. We hope to have a successful crop, bringing joy to consumers and stabilizing income for the family."
In order to meet the demand for Tet market, many families have started harvesting early. Although the output has decreased, the demand for grapefruit consumption in the days before Tet is still high, especially when Dien grapefruit gardens always have a number of regular customers. In particular, with the diversity in price and product quality, Dien grapefruit is gradually affirming its irreplaceable position in the Tet tray of Hanoians.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Tan, this year, with the decrease in output, the price of Dien grapefruit may increase, while the quality of the product is still guaranteed. This is a favorable condition for grapefruit growers to maintain stability in business and gain profits.
Besides, with careful preparation from gardeners, Dien grapefruit not only serves the consumption needs of Hanoi people but is also expanding its market to neighboring provinces.
