On the evening of January 23, hundreds of garbage trucks were congested, lined up for more than 1.5 km, from the beginning of National Highway 50 to the Da Phuoc waste treatment area. Meanwhile, the gate to the Da Phuoc waste treatment area was tightly closed, not allowing trucks to enter to dump garbage as usual. Regarding the above incident, on January 24, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City informed about the work to overcome the above situation as well as strengthen the work of ensuring environmental sanitation during the Lunar New Year 2025.
Currently, through the coordination of departments and branches, the congestion on the road to Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Complex has been handled, and the reception activities have taken place normally and stably.
However, to avoid congestion and waste accumulation that causes environmental pollution (especially during peak days, preparing for the Lunar New Year), the entire Department of Natural Resources and Environment is coordinating with localities and functional agencies: Department of Transport, City Police, Thu Duc City People's Committee and districts; collection, transportation and treatment units to concentrate vehicles and resources to strengthen patrolling and monitoring to promptly detect locations where congestion occurs to support traffic flow and coordinate the collection and transportation of domestic solid waste according to backup routes to waste treatment areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has coordinated with relevant units to develop and issue Plan No. 13547/KH-STNMT-CTR dated December 17, 2024 on implementing public sanitation work to serve the Lunar New Year 2025.
In which, the organization has strengthened the collection and transportation of domestic solid waste (SW) and construction solid waste (CTRXD) throughout the city during peak hours from January 26 to February 2 (from December 27 of the lunar calendar to the 5th day of Tet).
Arrange and allocate sufficient personnel, specialized vehicles and provide workers with appropriate protective gear to promptly handle the sudden increase in solid waste during the peak of Tet holiday to ensure the quality of sanitation and urban aesthetics of the city; especially at places where the Spring Flower Festival, Tet Flower Market, Nguyen Hue Flower Street, fireworks displays, fairs, etc. are held locally.
For waste treatment areas in Ho Chi Minh City: increase the reception and treatment of the volume of solid waste during the peak period of Lunar New Year compared to normal days (it is expected that on New Year's Eve it will likely double) to promptly handle all additional solid waste generated. Increase sanitation and frequency of spraying deodorizing agents to effectively control odors generated during the transportation of solid waste and the reception and treatment of solid waste.
Strengthen the inspection and supervision of environmental sanitation quality in the area to promptly detect and handle violations to prevent congestion and backlog of domestic waste in the area; review waste collection activities at the source, have solutions to coordinate volume and regulate time to appointment points and appropriate transfer stations in the management area; guide and adjust the transfer time and collection of domestic solid waste at the source appropriately, ensuring connection between collection at the source and transportation of domestic solid waste by service providers.
Relevant departments coordinate to guide and coordinate traffic activities to limit traffic jams on routes and routes for transporting domestic solid waste to treatment plants.
