SJC gold price returns to 147.6 million VND/tael
Recorded on August 22, SJC gold bar prices were listed at 144.6-147.6 million VND/tael (buying - selling), an increase of 600,000 VND/tael in both directions compared to the previous closing session. The gap between buying and selling prices is currently at 3 million VND/tael.
Since the beginning of the year, SJC gold prices have experienced many strong increases, at times exceeding 190 million VND/tael. If we assume buying 1 tael of gold at the selling price in some notable increases, then holding it until August 22 and reselling it at the current buying price of 144.6 million VND/tael, the results will be very different.
Looking back on January 29, the price of SJC gold bars at one point reached 188.3-191.3 million VND/tael.
If you buy 1 tael at 191.3 million VND and then keep it until now and sell it at 144.6 million VND/tael, buyers may face a loss of 46.7 million VND, equivalent to about 24.4% of the money spent.
By March 2nd, another increase brought SJC gold prices to 187.9-190.9 million VND/tael.
If buying 1 tael at 190.9 million VND/tael, by August 22nd, reselling it for 144.6 million VND, the loss is 46.3 million VND.
On April 15, SJC gold prices continued to increase sharply, at times up to 173-175.5 million VND/tael.
With the assumption of buying 1 tael at 175.5 million VND, if sold at the present time, the buyer will lose about 30.9 million VND.
Another increase appeared on May 21, when SJC gold bar prices recorded at 160.5-163.5 million VND/tael.
If you buy at a selling price of 163.5 million VND/tael and then hold it until August 22, the loss will be about 18.9 million VND.
Closer, on July 15, SJC gold price increased to 145.5-148.5 million VND/tael.
Buyers of 1 tael at 148.5 million VND, if sold at the current buying price of 144.6 million VND/tael, will lose about 3.9 million VND.
Note that the above calculations are only assumptions, taking the selling price at each time as the buying price and the buying price of 144.6 million VND/tael on August 22 as the selling price. The actual profit and loss depend on the time and specific transaction price of each person.
What do experts note when gold prices are high?
Although gold prices are at a high level, in a report released on August 21, UBS Wealth Management still maintains a positive outlook on the precious metal in the next 12 months and considers gold as a channel to diversify assets.
Meanwhile, Mr. Marc Chandler - CEO of a company specializing in capital markets and foreign exchange trading in the US (Bannockburn Global Forex) - said that gold exceeding the 200-day moving average for the first time in two months is a noteworthy technical signal. According to him, if gold prices maintain a convincing breakthrough above 4,600 USD/ounce, the next target may be the 4,680 USD/ounce zone.
However, UBS does not believe that investors should continue to increase the proportion of gold at all prices. For those who have made large profits after previous increases, the organization believes that it may consider reducing a portion of the proportion of gold and allocating it to other types of assets.
Talking about the gold market, MSc. Le Thi Huong Tra - Lecturer at the Institute of Banking Science Research, Banking Academy - said that for many Vietnamese people, gold is not only a profit-seeking investment but also used to accumulate and preserve asset value.
However, Ms. Tra noted that it should not be assumed that gold "just increases". Developments in the first half of 2026 show that gold prices may fluctuate very strongly, so buyers still need to be fully aware of price risks.
According to Ms. Tra, after a period of strong increase, a part of investors often look at the current gold price compared to the price they expect in the future. When the price adjusts, the psychology of taking advantage of buying may appear quite quickly.
