World oil prices today
World oil prices increased slightly today. At the end of the weekend trading session, WTI crude oil was at 74.66 USD/barrel, up 0.04 USD/barrel, or 0.05% increase. WTI crude oil closed the previous trading session at 74.62 USD/barrel, opening today's session at 74.60 USD/barrel.
Brent crude oil was at $78.50 a barrel, up $0.21 a barrel, or 0.27 percent. Brent crude oil closed the previous session at $78.29 a barrel and opened today at $77.86 a barrel.
Thus, world oil prices ended the week with a slight increase after a series of consecutive sharp declines.
On January 24, US President Donald Trump renewed his call for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to cut oil prices to put pressure on Russia's financial situation and promote an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
However, analysts say Mr Trump's goal could be hampered by the threat of tough US sanctions against Russia and Iran - two of the world's largest oil producers.
