According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, after being stuck in Karachi port (Pakistan) for a long time and unable to transit to export to Afghanistan due to tensions and border conflicts, nearly 500 tea containers of Vietnamese businesses have officially been allowed to be re-exported by Pakistan. Thereby removing one of the biggest obstacles for Vietnam's tea export activities in the past time.
Previously, immediately after receiving feedback from the Vietnam Tea Association and businesses about the situation of nearly 500 tea containers being stuck for a long time at Karachi port, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proactively and synchronously implemented many measures.
In which, Directing the Vietnam Trade Office in Pakistan to regularly work directly with relevant Pakistani agencies, including Customs, Karachi Port Authority, Ministry of Commerce and functional units, to find solutions to remove obstacles.
Closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan, organize many direct contacts and exchanges at all levels to promote Pakistan to soon have flexible handling measures for Vietnamese tea shipments.
Sending official diplomatic notes and letters to the Pakistani Ministry of Commerce, requesting consideration of special mechanisms to support Vietnamese businesses to re-export tea containers to third markets.
Report and propose to the Prime Minister to consider and direct the handling of the case at a high level, including the fact that the Prime Minister of Vietnam sent a letter and is expected to have a direct phone call with the Prime Minister of Pakistan to promote resolution.
Thanks to the above efforts, on December 31, 2025, the Pakistani Ministry of Commerce officially issued a document allowing exemption from current regulations (temporarily suspending the transit of goods to Afghanistan) and approving that Vietnamese cargo containers stuck at Karachi port be re-exported to other seaports, at the request of businesses or related logistics units.
This decision creates an important legal basis to release nearly 500 containers of Vietnamese tea, helping businesses minimize damage to warehousing and storage costs, preserve goods quality and stabilize cash flow.
The successful removal of obstacles for tea shipments in Pakistan affirms the proactive, responsible and accompanying role of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in protecting the legitimate rights of Vietnamese businesses and tea growers, especially in the context of unpredictable fluctuations in international trade and regional logistics.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to closely monitor the re-export implementation process in practice, and at the same time coordinate with relevant agencies of Vietnam and Pakistan to support businesses in completing necessary procedures, as well as strengthening market risk warnings, helping businesses be more proactive in export activities in the coming time.
