There is only more than 1 month left until the deadline for standardizing bank data. According to the latest announcement from Vietcombank, VietinBank, Agribank and BIDV, the regulation of tightening account authentication will officially take effect at the beginning of the new year.
Millions of accounts face the risk of interruption
Starting from January 1, 2026, banks will temporarily suspend all transactions on digital channels (Mobile Banking/Internet Banking) for customers who have not completed updating their identification documents and biometric data to match the National Population Database.
This drastic move is to implement the State Bank's regulations on eliminating junk accounts and preventing high-tech fraud crimes from breaking out near Tet.
3 customer groups in the "red zone"
If you fall into one of the following cases, your account will not be able to transfer money or pay online from January 1, 2026:
Customers are still using the old 9-digit ID card (CMND) that has not been updated to the Citizen Identification Card (CCCD) with a chip on the banking system.
Customers with expired identification documents registered with banks.
Customers have not collected biometric data (faces) or this data does not match the information in the chip of the CCCD card.
When online transactions are temporarily suspended, account holders are forced to bring their documents to the transaction counter directly to reopen. This will cause great inconvenience during the peak days before Tet.
Need to operate right on the application
To ensure smooth cash flow, people need to proactively check and update information in November and December 2025.
The implementation process is quite simple through the NFC feature on smartphones. Users just need to log in to the banking application, select the information update section and scan the chip on the CCCD on the back of the phone to synchronize data.
For cases where the phone does not support NFC or has a technical error when scanning, customers should take advantage of going to the transaction room early before December 31, 2025 to receive support from staff to avoid overload in the last days of the year.
