In mid-November, the An Phu intersection construction site (HCMC) recorded a dense construction schedule. The sound of drilling machines, rotating cranes and each convoy of material vehicles continuously coming and going shows that this important traffic route is entering the acceleration stage. At many locations, new concrete blocks have been poured, the steel girder system is being extended, the shape of the project is becoming increasingly clear.
In the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway area, the N2 bridge branch under the XL11 package has a closed structure, connecting from the expressway access road to the Mai Chi Tho axis. Currently, the project has reached nearly 60% of the volume and is being constructed simultaneously at three ends. It is expected that the N2 bridge branch will be completed and technically opened to traffic before December 31, 2025.
Along the Mai Chi Tho axis, the construction site of the HC1-02 underpass under the XL6 package has been expanded, the rough section has been basically completed. The tunnel cavities have clear structures, and the construction teams are entering the completion stage. The tunnel is 760m long, with four two-way lanes and has reached about 75% of the volume. Accordingly, the HC1-02 underpass will be completed and put into operation before January 15, 2026.
In the area connecting to Dong Van Cong Street, the bridge piers of branches N3 and N4 are being completed in sections. On Mai Chi Tho route, two bridges N1.1 and N1.3 turning left onto the expressway were also deployed at the same time, contributing to the overall structure of the project. These items are expected to be completed before June 30, 2026, to reduce traffic pressure for the axis in and out of Cat Lai port and the eastern urban area.
On Luong Dinh Cua Street, the land plot of more than 22,000 m2 related to the construction package of the N1.2 bridge branch is still surrounded, inside are completed pillars T4, T5, T7. The project is temporarily suspended pending site clearance, the remaining work such as M1 abutment and span structure can only be implemented after the land is handed over.
In a recent meeting, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested the Traffic Department to ensure the completion progress of the N2 bridge branch and the HC1-02 underpass; at the same time, requested the branch to expand from Luong Dinh Cua Street to Mai Chi Tho to be completed before November 30. The city also requires research on remote traffic diversion options and appropriate turning points on the expressway to reduce the load before entering the intersection.
For the land plot of more than 22,000 m2 in the An Phu Urban Development Area project, Ho Chi Minh City is considering a handling plan to report to the Prime Minister, thereby removing the land bottleneck for the Luong Dinh Cua construction site.
The An Phu intersection is a large-scale project with a total investment of about VND 3,400 billion, starting in 2022. The project includes an overpass system, underpass and branch lines, directly connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with the Mai Chi Tho and Dong Van Cong routes, expected to reduce congestion at the eastern gateway in the 2025-2026 period.
