Manulife's "Healthy Living Every Day" festival took place on December 15 at Nguyen Hue walking street, providing free medical examinations for more than 3,000 people, considered as early Christmas "gifts" for Saigon people.

This is the second time Manulife has coordinated with the Vietnam Young Physicians Association to organize community health check-ups in Ho Chi Minh City. Compared to the previous event in July, this program is three times larger in scale, aiming to expand health check-up opportunities to soldiers, demobilized soldiers, students, ordinary workers, people with revolutionary contributions, and policy families... in Ho Chi Minh City.

To serve the people attentively, more than 200 doctors and medical staff from the Vietnam Young Physicians Association and more than 200 volunteers who are employees and agents of Manulife have been actively working in the examination areas including: General internal medicine, cardiovascular, diabetes, respiratory, ENT examination area; Ultrasound, electrocardiogram, X-ray area; Blood sugar, blood lipid, uric acid testing area for gout patients... In particular, people can also be tested for Helicobacter Pylori (HP) bacteria through blood and screened for stomach cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer as prescribed by doctors.

Many people who participated in the medical examination said they were surprised by their health condition. Mr. T.N.K (36 years old, a technology car driver) shared: “I drive and deliver goods continuously. Whenever there is an order or a ride, I drive at that time, so my eating and drinking habits have not been on schedule for the past few years. Today, I found out that I was infected with HP bacteria and had signs of stomach disease such as indigestion, belching.... Luckily, there is this medical examination program, otherwise if I had not known, if I had left it for too long, my stomach disease might have gotten worse.”

Like Mr. K., many people were found to be positive for HP bacteria, one of the leading causes of stomach cancer. In addition, many people were diagnosed with dyslipidemia, blood sugar disorders, diabetes, osteoporosis, high uric acid, etc. After being examined, doctors advised people on information and knowledge to protect their health. In cases with signs of serious illness, doctors guided them to appropriate hospitals and medical facilities for treatment.

Ho Chi Minh City is also the final stop in the series of "Healthy Living Every Day" festivals organized by Manulife in collaboration with the Vietnam Young Physicians Association in the past time, concluding the journey of giving a total of 12,000 free medical examination opportunities to people in many provinces and cities in 2024. Before coming to Ho Chi Minh City, this journey was present in the provinces of Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Da Nang and Hanoi, helping people detect some diseases early and have timely treatment plans.

MSc. Dr. Ha Thanh Dat - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Young Physicians Association shared: "The program "Healthy Living Every Day" has shown great significance and practical value to people's lives because not everyone has the conditions to participate in medical examination and screening for chronic non-communicable diseases.

In addition, through information dissemination and advice from doctors, many people have become more aware of health protection. The program not only shows Manulife's efforts in investing in the community but also reflects the effective cooperation between social organizations, health care and businesses to create useful values for the community."

The “Healthy Living Every Day” festival series is part of Manulife’s “Clean - Smart - Green Living” community program, helping people raise awareness of health protection as well as awareness of the harmful effects of HP bacteria, the focus of the program. This series of events also demonstrates Manulife’s commitment to implementing the Community Development Agenda through comprehensive health improvement.

With its efforts to invest in the community through a series of practical and meaningful activities, Manulife was honored as "Top Enterprise in linking business goals and social responsibility" at the Saigon Times CSR 2024 ceremony organized by Saigon Economic Magazine last November.
