Update on gasoline and oil prices on May 2nd: Sharp decrease of more than 5%
At the end of the last trading session of the week, world oil prices fell sharply when WTI oil fell to 101.94 USD/barrel (down nearly 3%), while Brent oil was at 108.17 USD/barrel (down more than 5%). This decline was mainly due to information that Iran proposed negotiations with the US, but overall for the week, oil prices still increased due to undiminished geopolitical tensions, especially related to the Strait of Hormuz and oil export activities.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the world gasoline and oil market last week fluctuated due to many factors such as the UAE leaving OPEC+, restricting transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, deadlocked US-Iran negotiations and prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict. These factors caused finished gasoline and oil prices to fluctuate alternately, in which most items recorded an upward trend, especially diesel and mazut.
In the domestic market on May 2, 2026, retail gasoline and oil prices are maintained at: E5RON92 gasoline maximum 22, 626 VND/liter, RON95-III gasoline maximum 23, 751 VND/liter; diesel oil 28, 172 VND/liter and mazut oil 20, 027 VND/kg. Pork purchasing power in Ho Chi Minh City is weak
On the morning of May 2nd, at traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City such as Ba Chieu market, Pham Van Hai market, Nguyen Tri Phuong market, Hoa Binh market, the trading atmosphere was quite quiet, and the number of customers was sparse.
