Durian prices have fallen sharply
Although actively taking care of durian for the main harvest in the end of April 2025, these days, farmers in Nhon Nghia commune, Phong Dien district, Can Tho city cannot help but worry about the information that the Chinese market is tightening imports. This means that durian output in our country will face many difficulties in the coming time.

A farmer of the Cooperative in this locality said that currently, the price of Ri 6 durian is purchased by traders at about 50,000 VND/kg (quality type), down nearly 70,000 VND/kg compared to the 2024 off-season. This person acknowledged that at this price, gardeners are still profitable but warned of the risk of only "all-capital" when entering the main season.
"Now the price of off-season is low, we are worried that it will soon be only 30,000 VND/kg, even 25,000 VND" - this farmer said.
Faced with the possible bad scenario, farmers in Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta region hope that the authorities will soon take action to promote the export situation to improve within the next month.
"Currently, the local government has taken measures to manage the waste of pesticides. Farmers and everyone have been more careful in using fertilizers. But not everyone complies with this regulation, especially the general control is still not strict" - the farmer admitted.
Previously, at the end of February 2025, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Dac Hung - Director of the Fruit Tree Production Cooperative of Nhon Tho 1A Hamlet (Phong Dien District, Can Tho City) - informed that due to the impact of the market, durian prices are often unstable. At the above time, the price of Ri6 durian type A was purchased at 65,000 VND/kg, type B was 45,000 VND/kg. With this price, if people can ensure productivity and durian is of good quality, Mr. Hung said there will still be profits.
Apply many measures
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, in 2025, durian exports are expected to continue to grow thanks to an expected increase of 15% in output and large market demand.
Despite its great potential, the Vietnamese durian industry is facing many challenges. Competition from rivals such as Thailand and Indonesia has increased, as China has opened its durian import from these countries.
Notably, in early 2025, China tightened inspection of O (BY2) gold on imported fruits, causing a delay in Vietnam's durian exports. Many shipments were returned or waited for customs clearance at the border gate for a long time. BY2 may have been used to enhance fruit color, leading to concerns about food safety.

Regarding the issue of durian exports in recent times and especially China tightening import criteria, shared at the seminar "Some notes in producing fruit trees for export", MSc. Le Thanh Tung - Vice President of the Vietnam Gardeners Association - said that there needs to be a common strategy to control.
Accordingly, within the scope of a gardener, a cooperative or cooperative needs to pay attention to technical issues and food safety so that the fruit produced is of good quality and sustainable. Regardless of whether cultivation is spread out over a crop or not, producers need to reduce production costs as well as not expect the selling price to be too high. In that way, even if they cannot export, manufacturers can still consume domestically with a moderate profit.
