KIDO Group's trillion-dollar M&A deals

Nutifood acquired 51% of KIDO Group's capital, bringing KIDO thousands of billions of VND. On the other hand, KIDO also spent thousands of billions to control many big brands.

Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company (Nutifood) has just announced the completion of investment procedures to hold 51% of shares of Kido Frozen Food Joint Stock Company (Kido Foods - stock code: KDF). With this ownership ratio, Nutifood will become the parent company controlling Kido Foods.

Kido Foods is one of the largest ice cream manufacturers in Vietnam, including two familiar ice cream brands: Celano and Merino.

Previously, in April 2023, Kido Group Joint Stock Company (KIDO Group - stock code: KDC) transferred more than 24% of Kido Foods' capital, the identity of the transferee was not disclosed. The transaction was worth VND 1,069 billion, valuing the company at about VND 4,450 billion. Currently, Kido Group still holds the remaining 49% of Kido Foods' shares.

KIDO Group is famous in the business world for its M&A (mergers and acquisitions) deals.

Most recently, in August 2024, KIDO purchased 39.41%; 18.64% and 17.34 shares of Hung Vuong Joint Stock Company, respectively. After these transactions, KIDO's ownership in Hung Vuong reached nearly 18.2 million shares, equivalent to 75.39%, thereby controlling the enterprise and controlling the Hung Vuong Plaza shopping mall.

This building is located at 126 Hong Bang, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City with 4 facades and a total commercial floor area of ​​nearly 45,000m2, including 7 commercial floors and underground and outdoor parking lots. This is also the old premises of Parkson.

KIDO's most notable deal was at the end of 2014, when the Group announced the sale of 80% of its confectionery division to Mondelēz International Group (USA) for 370 million USD (about 10,000 billion VND).

During the period of withdrawal from the confectionery industry, Kido acquired and controlled major cooking oil brands such as Tuong An Oil, Vocarimex and Golden Hope Nha Be to rise to the second position in the industry, accounting for 82% of the Group's revenue.

In October 2023, the Group reached an agreement to acquire the Tho Phat dumpling brand. Accordingly, by the end of the third quarter of 2023, Tho Phat will be recognized as a subsidiary of Kido, with an ownership ratio of 51%, equivalent to an investment value of VND 810 billion. With this ownership ratio, Tho Phat is valued at about VND 1,588 billion.

In early October 2023, KIDO continued to pour in an additional 269 billion VND, increasing its ownership ratio at Tho Phat to 68% of shares, meaning that this unit spent 1,079 billion VND to acquire Tho Phat dumplings.
