Unstable weather
This year, Mr. Nguyen Van Tai (Phong Dien district, Can Tho city) produced the harvest early in the hope that durian will be sold at a high price. However, unfavorable weather conditions and many fluctuations in the durian export market, prices have decreased sharply compared to the same period, making this gardener worried.
According to Mr. Tai, storms, unseasonal rains and hot weather have affected each other, reducing durian output this year by about 40%.
Before Tet, after the storm and then the unseasonal rain, the flowering and fruit production rate will be severely affected. Our gardeners had to rebuild the second batch. Up to now, there are about 20 days left to harvest, and durian leaves are on fire. This year's leaf burning is more serious than last year, estimated at about 30%," said Mr. Tai.

Mr. Tran Van Chien - Director of the Cooperative of Truong Khuong A Fruit Garden (Phong Dien District, Can Tho City) - said that the flowering and fruitage rate of 10 hectares of durian gardens in the cooperative that are harvested early are affected by erratic weather.
After the second flowering process due to the impact of storms and unseasonal rains, members continue to face the situation of burning durian leaves at a minimum level of about 10%, especially during the durian stage that creates rice. The reason is that the weather is hot and sunny during the day and cold at night, creating favorable conditions for the development of fungus. In addition, the plant must provide nutrients to grow fruit, which affects the leaves.
Urgently irrigate
Faced with severe leaf burning, Mr. Tai is urgently watering and applying measures to provide adequate nutrients for the durian garden on the eve of the harvest.
"The weather was very hot and humid, every day I had to water the roots to keep them moist. Fungerine vaccines have also been supplemented in moderation to limit the plant from continuing to suffer from leaf burns, Mr. Tai shared.

To cope with leaf burns on durian trees, Mr. Chien said that the cooperative has recommended that gardeners regularly water so that the roots can absorb the necessary amount of water, ensure enough moisture, and minimize leaf burns. Members need to have a reasonable production process, provide adequate nutrients for the plants as well as limit the use of products that cause poisoning of leaves and fruits.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, the city has granted 42 codes for the main export growing area for fresh durian to the Chinese market, with a total area of 1,511 hectares and 1 durian packaging facility granted a code.
In addition to favorable conditions, in 2025, the Chinese market tightened import criteria, which affected the country's durian industry in general and Can Tho City in particular. Durian prices have decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2024. Ri 6 durian has prices ranging from 35,000 - 50,000 VND/kg; Dona (Mongthong) is at 50,000 - 70,000 VND/kg. Unfavorable weather conditions due to the impact of climate change, hot weather and unseasonal rain make it difficult to process the blooming and bearing of durian trees.
