On December 19, the General Department of Taxation held an online conference "Summary of tax work in 2024 and deployment of tax work tasks and solutions in 2025".
Attending and giving a speech at the conference, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang highly appreciated the achievements and activities of the General Department of Taxation in the past year.
According to Minister Nguyen Van Thang, the General Department of Taxation has grasped the trend and integrated into the general trend. At the same time, there are innovations associated with social changes. The Tax Department has actively transformed digitally, applied artificial intelligence (AI), this is an important and urgent content of the industry in the current period.
“Without information technology, without updating data, core software… with the rapid changes in the development of science and technology and modern business forms like today, it will be very difficult for the tax department to complete its tasks” - the Minister of Finance emphasized.
According to the report at the Conference, the total State Budget revenue in 2024 managed by the tax authority is estimated at VND 1,732,000 billion, exceeding the estimate by 16.5% (equivalent to VND 245,588 billion), up 13.7% compared to the implementation in 2023.
The above results have significantly contributed to the Government having more resources to implement social security policies, promote sustainable economic growth, and contribute to the completion of the 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan for the 2021-2025 period, towards the 14th National Party Congress.
The General Department of Taxation said that in order to complete the budget collection task, from the beginning of the year, the Tax sector has developed a communication and propaganda plan, directing tax agencies at all levels to carry out propaganda with content closely following the progress of the sector's political tasks.
In the journey of digitalizing tax management, in 2024, the tax sector will continue to make comprehensive changes in tax management methods, gradually integrating all tax management activities of tax authorities into the digital environment, innovating the operating model, and changing the way tax services are provided based on digital technology and digital data.
In particular, in November 2024, the Tax Department launched a virtual assistant application to support taxpayers (AI Chatbot). After only 1 month of implementation, the application received and answered nearly 30,000 questions with 4,500 registered users.
Regarding tax management of e-commerce activities and digital business, the tax sector has developed and officially put into operation an electronic information portal for households and individuals with e-commerce business activities.
In total, 439 e-commerce trading floors have provided information to tax authorities with nearly 725,000 organizations and individuals doing business on e-commerce floors. The total transaction value is more than 75,000 billion VND. In 2024, tax authorities also collected about 116,000 billion VND in taxes from organizations and individuals doing e-commerce business, an increase of 20% compared to 2023.
The total number of organizations and individuals subject to review, urging, and support for tax declaration and payment is over 120,300 enterprises and individuals with the declared and paid tax amount of nearly 51,600 billion VND. Of which, nearly 30,700 cases of violations have been handled with the amount of tax collected and fined of nearly 1,360 billion VND.
For foreign suppliers, since the time of launching the Portal (March 21, 2022), 120 units have registered, declared and paid taxes. The total tax declared and paid directly by foreign suppliers through the portal in 2024 is nearly VND 8,700 billion, exceeding 26% of the revenue in the same period in 2023 and exceeding 74% of the estimate.
