How to name bank accounts according to new regulations
Based on Circular 17/2024/TT-NHNN (amended by Circular 25/2025/TT-NHNN), regulations on naming payment accounts from March 1, 2026 have clear distinctions.
For business households, the name of the payment account must not be arbitrarily placed but must include the name of the business household recorded on the establishment permit or business registration certificate. Specifically, according to Decree 168/2025/ND-CP, the standard business household name must include two components:
The phrase "Business household";
Private name of business household.
This standardization helps banks and management agencies easily identify accounts used for business purposes, completely separate from the household's personal spending account.
Duty to notify all account numbers to the tax authority
Not only stopping at standardizing names, a new proposal in the Draft Decree guiding tax management is attracting attention: Business households are responsible for notifying tax authorities of all account numbers related to production and business activities.
This is a mandatory obligation to ensure transparency. In addition, business households also have the following main responsibilities:
Accurate self-declaration: Correctly reflects actual revenue arising to serve as a basis for tax calculation.
Use accounting books and invoices: Comply with the guidance of the Ministry of Finance and legal regulations on electronic invoices.
Provide data: Be ready to provide books, invoices, and even sales management software when the tax authority conducts inspections.
Specific notes for e-commerce business
For households and individuals doing business on e-commerce platforms (Shopee, Lazada, TikTok...), the responsibility is even broader. Sellers must provide a full tax code or personal identification number to the owner of the e-commerce platform and voluntarily declare special taxes such as special consumption tax, environmental protection tax (if any).
Tightening management through bank accounts and requiring notification of account numbers is considered a drastic step to combat tax loss in the digital economy, while protecting the rights of business households to fully fulfill their tax obligations.
