Be careful when importing goods.
At Tan An unit market (Ninh Kieu district) with more than 200 business households, currently the goods for sale are diverse from agricultural products, seafood to groceries... to serve the Tet shopping season. According to the traders, the shopping atmosphere is still quite quiet even though it is December.
Trader Nguyen Thi Phuong Hong said that although it is Tet season, purchasing power is still at a normal level. The amount of goods consumed is still the same as in the daily market, prices are relatively stable, and there are no signs of shortage.
Although the number of people going to the market has increased, according to trader Nguyen Thi Hue Huong, shopping demand has not increased. Compared to December last year, Ms. Huong assessed that purchasing power is somewhat slower, customers mainly buy daily consumer goods, not stocking up for Tet.
With purchasing power not yet increased, coupled with abundant supply, competition with supermarket systems and online shopping channels, many small traders are quite cautious.
This year, Ms. Huong did not stockpile goods to sell for Tet but mainly based on consumer demand. “Customers tend to buy enough to ensure fresh food, so I am not in a hurry to stockpile. Affordable fruits are prioritized because they suit the needs and budgets of workers. Hopefully, from now until Tet, the shopping atmosphere will be more vibrant and attract more customers,” Ms. Huong shared.
Worried that poor storage will cause losses, this year, Ms. Hong decided to limit the stockpiling of Tet goods and try to keep prices stable to increase consumption. “I import goods every day, depending on consumer demand, I will adjust the prices up and down to reduce risks. Regarding prices, I will try to keep them as stable as possible so that consumers can shop boldly and I can also improve my revenue during Tet,” Ms. Hong said.
Ensuring safety during Tet holiday
Speaking to Lao Dong, Ms. Ly Thi Cam Chau - Tan An Market Management Board - informed that at this time, purchasing power at the market is still at a normal level. It is expected that from the 23rd day of the lunar calendar, purchasing power will gradually increase until Tet.
According to Ms. Chau, although there is no increase, the amount of goods in reserve is still sufficient to serve the Lunar New Year, averaging 20-30 tons/day. From now until Tet, the prices of goods will also be kept stable, meeting the shopping needs of consumers.
The Management Board and the Market Order Team will coordinate with the Tan An Ward Police to ensure security and order, helping traders and people to buy and sell conveniently during Tet. The Management Board and the Market Order Team will also regularly monitor, notify and remind businesses and traders to be aware of fire prevention and fighting, food safety and hygiene, and ensure the quality of goods purchased and sold during the upcoming Lunar New Year.
Regarding the supply and storage of goods, Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City - previously requested the Market Management Department to closely coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade to prevent counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods, especially for essential goods for Tet.
