Sin Quyen copper mine located in Coc My and Ban Vuoc communes ( Bat Xat district) is currently the largest copper mine in Vietnam with a total reserve of about 53.5 million tons of ore.
Sin Quyen Copper Mining Branch, Lao Cai - Vimico is a unit under TKV Mineral Corporation, with a total exploitation capacity of 2.5 million tons of ore/year.
According to statistics, in 2025, Sin Quyen copper mine was granted the right to exploit 1.5 million tons of copper ore, equal to 2/3 compared to previous years.
Every year, the unit produces over 90,000 tons of copper ore with a content of 24%, about 150,000 tons of iron ore with a content of 60%, and a volume of 12-15 million m3 of excavated rock and soil.
On February 19, at the Sin Quyen copper mine, according to the observation of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the entire mine was located in a large area. Around the area, many equipment, machinery and factories have sprung up to serve the ore mining process.
Actual records show that the Sin Quyen copper mine is currently operating. At the site, many large-capacity trucks are operating.
According to Mr. Vu Anh Tuan - General Director of the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV): TKV determined to focus all resources to develop into a strong economic group, contributing to ensuring national energy security; gradually improving competitiveness on the basis of focusing on the main fields: Coal industry, mineral industry, electricity industry, industrial explosives industry, mining mechanics and developing appropriate supporting industries and services.
In particular, TKV strives to ensure the progress of key investment projects; complete procedures and start construction in 2025 of many important projects, including the project to expand and increase the capacity of the Sin Quyen copper mine (Lao Cai).
According to the approved decision (adjusted), the project to expand the capacity of the Sin Quyen copper mine: Exploitation capacity of 2.05 million tons of raw ores/year; mobilized geological reserves of 17,194,250 tons, equivalent to 187,417 tons of copper metal.
Ms. Bui Thi Van (a resident of Coc My commune) said: "Expansion of the copper mine will help ensure stable and long-term jobs for hundreds of local workers. We hope that we need to balance the impact of the mine on the environment to avoid affecting the surrounding residential area".
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Vu Dinh Hung - Deputy Director of Lao Cai right Copper Mining Branch said: "In 2025, we will expand and increase the mining capacity of the mine. Currently, the implementation of legal procedures is facing some difficulties, the unit is still applying for a license".
