According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 8 months of 2024, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reached 40.08 billion USD.
In the first 8 months, the export value of most commodity groups increased, bringing the total export turnover value up 18.6% over the same period last year. Of which, agricultural products increased by 24%; forestry products increased by 19.7%; aquatic products increased by 7.6%; livestock increased slightly by 0.3%...
"With the total export value achieved in the first 8 months of 2024, the agriculture and rural development sector can completely achieve an export value of 55-56 billion USD according to the target assigned by the Government" - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien affirmed.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, fruit and vegetable exports increased by 30% in the first 8 months of 2024, reaching a turnover value of 4.6 billion USD. In particular, grapefruit is exported to South Korea; frozen durian and fresh coconut are officially exported to China, opening up many growth opportunities for the fruit and vegetable industry.
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association assessed that the Protocol on frozen durian and fresh coconut will help the export of processed fruits and vegetables reach 1.4 billion USD this year. Promoting the export of deeply processed agricultural products is the goal that the agriculture and rural development sector is aiming for, in order to increase the value of agricultural products by 3-4 times compared to fresh products.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, previously, frozen durian was mainly exported to Thailand, the US and Europe with a turnover of several hundred million USD per year.
The signing of the Protocol between Vietnam and China on the export of frozen durian to this market has increased the opportunity to boost the export of durian to this market of over 1.4 billion people.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also assessed that, with the above advantages, durian exports could "explode" this year, forecast to bring in about 3.5 billion USD, of which frozen durian alone could reach 400-500 million USD.
"With key products such as durian, dragon fruit, grapefruit, mango, coconut, banana... the total export value of fruits and vegetables this year could reach a record of over 7 billion USD. Coconut alone could reach 350 million USD.
By 2025, coconut exports could reach 500-600 million USD when the code is granted," Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association affirmed.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 8 months of 2024, with a total export turnover of 40.08 billion USD and import turnover of 28.28 billion USD, the agriculture and rural development sector achieved a trade surplus of 11.8 billion USD, an increase of 68.4% over the same period last year.
Export value to all markets increased. Of which, Asia increased by 15.7%; America increased by 22.3%; Europe increased by 30.5%; Africa increased by 5.5% and Oceania increased by 12.8%.
