Quang Tri plans to evacuate thousands of households to avoid storm No. 4

Before the forecast of storm No. 4 affecting Quang Tri province, the locality has made plans to evacuate people to avoid flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

According to forecasts, storm No. 4 will affect Quang Tri province, causing heavy rain. Authorities have warned that the mountainous districts of Huong Hoa and Dakrong in this locality are at risk of flash floods and landslides.

Mr. Ha Sy Dong - Permanent Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee said that based on the terrain characteristics and weather developments, Quang Tri province has proposed a plan to evacuate people.

Accordingly, in the flash flood area, the total number of households needing to be evacuated and relocated is 2,393 households/9,683 people in 36 communes in 5 districts. Of which, mainly concentrated in Huong Hoa district with 954 households/4,071 people and Dakrong district with 655 households/2,704 people.

In the landslide area, the total number of households needing to be evacuated and relocated is 1,295 households/5,924 people in 27 communes of 4 districts. Similar to the flash flood area, the number of households needing to be evacuated is mainly in Huong Hoa district with 594 households/2,617 people and Dakrong district with 675 households/3,217 people.

In the above areas, people are evacuated from temporary shelters that do not ensure disaster prevention and control to solid houses such as schools, agency headquarters, commune People's Committee headquarters, medical stations, border posts, community houses, etc.

In addition to planning to evacuate people to avoid flash floods and landslides, Quang Tri province also has a detailed scenario for evacuating people to avoid storms in 4 coastal districts, including Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang and Con Co island district with 9,509 households/29,957 people. Priority is given to the urgent evacuation plan for 1,471 households/4,411 people affected in coastal communes.

It is known that at 7:00 a.m. on September 19, the center of storm No. 4 was at about 17.5 degrees North latitude; 108.7 degrees East longitude, about 165km East Northeast of Quang Tri.

The strongest wind is level 8 (62-74km/h), gusting to level 10. At Con Co island in Quang Tri province, the wind is level 7, gusting to level 8. At Cua Viet town (Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province), the wind is level 4-5, gusting to level 6.
