Thermal films are one of the items that many car owners are interested in after buying a new car. Some car manufacturers may equip customers with films available, but the quality and heat insulation capacity between types of films are not the same.
According to a technician at the Ninety Eight Auto Repair, Maintenance and Care Center (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), for high-end car models, films equipped by manufacturers or dealers are usually of relatively good quality and can be used for a long time.
Meanwhile, with many popular car models, car owners can consider changing the film if the given type does not meet the usage needs.
One of the important effects of heat-resistant films is to limit ultraviolet (UV) rays and heat radiation transmitted through the glass. Car glass itself today also has certain properties that help limit UV rays, anti-glare or reduce heat. However, added heat-resistant films can increase the ability to control heat and UV rays.
Especially, in hot weather conditions, the amount of heat transmitted through the glass panels can cause the temperature in the car compartment to increase rapidly. At that time, the air conditioning system must operate more to bring the temperature to a comfortable level, affecting energy consumption and comfort of the people sitting in the car.
Film insulation depends on each product and should not be equated with a fixed number. High-end films can achieve high solar resistance, but users need to view the technical specifications announced by the manufacturer correctly instead of just relying on advertising.
In addition to heat resistance, heat-resistant film also helps increase privacy. Car owners can choose many different levels of lighting. The windshield usually needs to prioritize visibility, so film that is too dark should not be used. With rear window and rear window glass, users can choose darker-colored film if they want to limit outsiders from looking into the car compartment.
However, heat-resistant film also has disadvantages. If low-quality film is used or construction is not done correctly, after a period of time, the film may become discolored, blistered, peel off, or the phenomenon of image deformation may appear.
In particular, when the film is degraded, the driver may feel that the image through the glass is blurred, distorted or resembles the hot air effect, causing the image in front to be deformed. This phenomenon can affect visibility and potentially pose a risk of unsafety, especially when it occurs on the windshield.
Cost is also a factor to consider. On the market, the price of film coating for a car can vary significantly depending on brand, technology, material, film coating location and warranty policy. Some ceramic film packages have a price of about 5-7 million VND/car, but should not only rely on the price to evaluate quality.
With hot climate conditions and many extremely hot sunny times, applying heat-resistant film may be a worthwhile choice for new cars. However, car owners should prioritize film with clear origin, transparent specifications, suitable for each glass position and constructed by experienced units.
