On December 19, a short video clip was circulated on social media recording the image of a white BMW car with license plate 34A - 715.32 in Hai Duong crossing the lane and stopping next to the opposite lane while other vehicles were waiting in line to move.
This car crossed the yellow line, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with another vehicle. The driver even brazenly got in and out of the car, opening and closing the door while the car was stopped in the wrong lane. The incident was recorded by a camera in another car.
According to the posted video, the incident occurred at Phu Intersection (Binh Giang District, Hai Duong Province). The incident attracted the attention of the online community with hundreds of comments. The majority of opinions said that the BMW owner lacked awareness when participating in traffic.
Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Binh Giang District Police Department (Hai Duong Province) said that the unit has learned of the incident and will proceed to verify and handle it in accordance with the law.
Recently, there have been many cases of vehicles recklessly overtaking and driving in the wrong lane, resulting in serious consequences. Despite heavy fines, many drivers seem not to be afraid, and the situation of driving in the wrong lane and going in the wrong direction continues to occur.
Regarding legal regulations, Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, amended and supplemented by Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, stipulates a fine of VND 4,000,000 to VND 6,000,000 for driving a car in the wrong part of the road or lane (lane in the same direction or lane in the opposite direction).
In addition, violators will have their driver's license revoked for 1 to 3 months.
If a driver drives in the wrong lane or lane and causes an accident, he/she will be fined from 10,000,000 VND to 12,000,000 VND and have his/her driving license revoked for 2 to 4 months.
