The 29th time… emotional
Every time I attend the Ton Duc Thang Scholarship awarding ceremony (HBTĐT) organized by the Labor Confederation of An Giang province, I am deeply moved. Not only can we "see" the achievements of the Trade Union in providing practical support to the children of union members and workers in studying, but we can also see and hear touching stories about examples of "overcoming difficulties and studying well". Each family has a different situation, so each child is a very unique example of strength...
And the 29th HBTDT awarding was even more so when I met again Le Quang Duy (born in 2013) - a student who overcame the pain of a serious illness to excel in his studies that I had the opportunity to know since 2022. Unexpected , was touched and admired when he learned that Duy maintained his good academic achievements. Because it is not only an improvement in learning, but also a journey to overcome the pain of an incurable disease that has reached a dangerous stage.
In 2021, while in 2nd grade at Vinh Trach Primary School (Thoi Son district), Duy discovered kidney cancer. Because his father and mother's income as a worker at the Farm Farm under AFIEX Joint Stock Company is only 9-10 million VND/month, there is not enough money for Duy to have surgery according to the doctor's advice. After that, Duy was given chemotherapy. Every time that happens, Duy's mother has to swallow her tears...
Typically, during the 21st chemotherapy session, due to complicated health changes, Duy was hospitalized for more than 10 days. Often unconscious, but every time he wakes up, Duy wants to take out his notebook to study.
Besides the "warriors", this time there are many admirable rookies. A typical example is Nguyen Luong Cat Tuong. Her father is a teacher at Vinh Khanh Secondary School (Thoi Son district), her mother passed away after being treated for colon cancer, so even though she is only 8 years old, this 3rd grade student has to help her father take care of her 3-year-old brother. Lacking love, busy with housework... but in the 2023-2024 school year, Cat Tuong achieved excellent student results...
Bring joy to employees
Speaking at the 29th HBTDT awarding ceremony, Mr. Lam Thanh Si - Chairman of the Confederation of Labor of An Giang province - said that this time, An Giang awarded 103 scholarships and 108 "Support to go to school" gifts to the children of athletes, Employees overcome difficulties and study well. With support norms ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 million VND/case (depending on educational level), HBTĐT truly brings joy to employees and staff. Besides providing financial support to reduce difficulties in studying for children, the Trade Union also provides motivation.
“For children to go to school is a great effort and sacrifice from grandparents, parents, and families... Therefore, children should strive to continue their efforts to study well..." - Mr. Si graciously chatted at the ceremony.
In addition, Mr. Si also called on all levels of Trade Unions to continue to innovate the content and implementation methods to increase the spread of electronic training, help children of employees and workers have better learning conditions and especially not let any child have to Drop out of school and cannot go to school just because of difficulties. This is also a tradition and a proud achievement of An Giang Trade Union.
Since its inception (1995) until now, HBTĐT has continuously grown. From only considering and awarding a few dozen awards/year, after 29 organizations, more than 2,000 awards have been awarded with a total amount of over 2 billion VND. In order to maintain the number of scholarships at a high level and in large numbers, Trade Unions at all levels have constantly innovated content and operating methods...
In addition to promoting available funds, every year, from the Provincial Confederation of Labor to the direct upper level Trade Union at the grassroots level... regularly connect and receive external resources. A typical example is the Labor Confederation of Thoai Son district. Of the 15 quotas for the 29th HBTDT, the district's Labor Confederation mobilized BIDV Joint Stock Commercial Bank for 5 grants and mobilized funds for cadres and civil servants of Thoai Son district to save 1,500 VND/day/person, supporting 10 grants. In addition, we also mobilized the Transaction Office of Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade in Thoai Son to give each child 10 notebooks...
