The Ho Chi Minh City National University Student Football Tournament - Thaco Cup 2024 is an activity to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2024) and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh City National University's establishment and development (January 27, 1995 - January 27, 2025).
This year's tournament has 8 member universities of Ho Chi Minh City National University, including: University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, International University, University of Information Technology, University of Economics and Law, An Giang University, University of Health Sciences.
After 2 weeks of competition, the tournament has also found the 2 best teams to play in the final match, which are the Polytechnic University and An Giang University. The opening match of this year’s tournament was also a clash between these 2 teams, and the victory with a score of 5-1 went to the Polytechnic University.
In the final match, the Polytechnic University defeated An Giang University for the second time in this year's tournament. This time, the score was 1-0 with a penalty goal successfully scored by Quoc Phong. This victory helped the Polytechnic University become the new champion of the first Thaco Cup 2024 National University student football tournament, along with a prize of 50 million VND.
An Giang University received the runner-up title, while the two teams tied for third place were the University of Natural Sciences and the University of Economics and Law.
