On the afternoon of August 25, in Hanoi, Nhan Dan Newspaper coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to hold a press conference to inform about the nationwide walking activity "Joining Vietnam to Advance" in 2026. With the message "10 billion green steps - For a sustainable Vietnam", the program is implemented in 34 provinces and cities, aiming to establish a Guinness World Record.
The peak activity series takes place in two days, August 29-30, in 34 provinces and cities. The highlight is the nationwide walking activity on the morning of August 30. The activities take place from 5 am to 8 am; the opening ceremony is held simultaneously at 6 am in 34 provinces and cities, then the official walking activity starts from 6:30 am.
People across the country can register to participate, connect devices and accumulate steps on the official information portal of the program. Each recorded step contributes to the common goal of 10 billion green steps, while encouraging health training and forming exercise habits.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association - said that the 2025 program initially set a target of 1 billion steps but recorded more than 6 billion steps, with about 1.1 million participants.
Together with Vietnam to Advance is an unprecedented event, both igniting the spirit of sports and contributing to the community towards the Net Zero goal, implemented nationwide in all 34 provinces and cities and 3,221 communes and wards," said Mr. Le Quoc Minh.
From the results of 2025, the Organizing Committee set a target of 10 billion green steps this year. By the afternoon of August 25, the online system recorded nearly 500 million steps of nearly 105,000 participants.
Another goal of this year's activities is to aim to establish the Guinness World Record. According to Mr. Le Quoc Minh, the Organizing Committee has registered with the Guinness World Records Organization and is guided on the implementation process. However, the results need to be statistically verified and carefully verified by an independent third party before being considered for recognition by Guinness.
Establishing a record requires a rigorous statistical and verification process. The results must have accurate data and be certified by an independent third party to be eligible for Guinness to consider recognition," said Mr. Le Quoc Minh.

In addition to walking activities, this year's program focuses on encouraging health training, forming exercise habits and raising awareness about environmental protection. During the two peak days, the Organizing Committee plans to implement exchange activities, physical exercise and interactive spaces about green lifestyles, Net Zero.
The program is accompanied by a number of businesses. Representatives of Vietcombank said that customers participating through linkage with the bank are doubled the number of steps recorded, thereby contributing to supporting the "Joining Hands to Advance" program for students in difficult circumstances in the 2026-2027 school year.
The registration portal for activities "Joining Vietnam to Advance" in 2026 is open from August 13. People can register, connect devices and accumulate steps online before participating in the simultaneous walking activity in 34 provinces and cities on the morning of August 30.
