That is the "Song of the Year" award 2021 for the song "Bau oi dung khoc" - a product marking Hamlet Truong's first attempt at folk music and surprisingly creating a big buzz.
The male musician said that the award is not only of professional significance but also evokes many touching memories related to the late singer Phi Nhung. According to Hamlet Truong, that year both he and the late singer Phi Nhung were named at the Mai Vang Awards.
At that time, there were many memories and all those memories, once they rushed back, seemed a bit too much for my memory," he shared when recalling that special time.
Few people know that the song "Bau oi dung khoc" was originally composed by Hamlet Truong at the order of artist Lo Lo for the Saigon Tan Thoi lotto troupe. The male musician said that he completed the song in just one night by putting himself in the mood of a "producer" of a troupe facing the risk of losing the performance stage.
What surprised Hamlet Truong was that after the song was released, the lotto troupe in real life also encountered similar upheavals to the content in the song. This coincidence made him feel that the song had a "intuitive" element.
Why does the song apply to the troupe like that? So the song is indeed based on intuition," he said.
Besides music, Hamlet Truong is also known as a writer and has tried his hand at many different genres such as bolero or cai luong. In the program, the male artist shared his life philosophy with the image of "beans under many layers of mattress" in fairy tales.
According to him, dreams are like beans, always making people feel remorseful if they cannot be realized. "If I can't do it, it will hurt like that," the male musician expressed.
Hamlet Truong revealed that he still keeps thousands of unreleased compositions. Although he once hesitated because he was afraid that the songs would become old over time, he said he would boldly refresh them and introduce them to the audience in the near future.
