The play at Vo Van Tan Small Stage Theater 5B received the attention of a large number of theater lovers. Under the editing of NSND My Uyen and the staging idea of young director Hua Manh Dung, the work still retains the humanistic spirit of the original script but is renewed by a more modern approach.
Inspired by the familiar question "if there is an opportunity to meet the deceased, what will we say?", "The House Without Women" tells the story of Mr. Hai - a man who lost his wife and daughter in an unexpected accident. Thanks to the favor of the God of Time, the souls of the two mothers and daughters are left in the old house to witness secrets, unspoken love and unfinished regrets of those who remain.
The special point of Ngoc Linh's script is that it does not build a specific villain. Instead, tragedy comes from things that have not been revealed, hidden emotions and the words "if only" that make the characters forever linger.
According to People's Artist My Uyen, the choice of "The House Without Women" to be rebuilt not only stems from the feelings for the work that was associated with her more than 20 years ago, but also from the desire to give opportunities for the young generation of artists to access classic theatrical values.
The 2026 version has many notable adjustments. The character God of Time is expanded in screen time, both bringing laughter and emphasizing the message of cherishing time with loved ones. The line of character Diem is built as an emotional writer, creating conflicts and haunting silences with Loan - a young model who falls in love with Mr. Hai.
The play also marks the reunion of the trio of young artists Tran Tuan Kiet, Tran Dai Chinh and Hua Manh Dung after the success of the musical "Ao quan" at the end of 2025.
Not only is it a renovated play, "The House Without Women" is also considered a starting point for the journey to revive the works that once marked the 5B stage. According to People's Artist My Uyen, the next project being prepared is the play "In the Glory of Darkness", continuing to extend efforts to preserve and renovate the stage values that have become memories of many generations of audiences.
