In the period 2021-2025, cooperation between Gia Lai province (including old Binh Dinh province and old Gia Lai province) and 4 southern provinces of Laos has achieved many practical results. Cooperation activities are implemented synchronously in many fields, clearly showing the cohesion, loyalty, and steadfastness between the two sides.
The total budget for cooperation in this period is nearly 116 billion VND. Of which, most is allocated to support the construction of friendship projects with 60 billion VND and scholarships for students in southern Laos provinces of about 26 billion VND.
At the conference, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee and the Government Committees of 4 southern provinces of Laos including Attapeu, Champasak, Salavan and Sekong signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation for the period 2026-2030.
On this occasion, the Sekong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment also signed a memorandum of understanding with PISICO Binh Dinh Corporation - Joint Stock Company. Attapeu Provincial Government Committee awarded an extension license to Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group for the Multi-crop Forest Planting project.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - emphasized that Vietnam - Laos relations are a special, loyal, pure, and rare relationship in the world.
According to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, in the past time, the cooperative relationship between Gia Lai province and southern Laos provinces has been constantly consolidated and comprehensively developed in many fields such as education - training, health, agriculture, trade - investment, science - technology and people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides also regularly support and create favorable conditions for businesses in the process of investment, production, and business; coordinate to remove difficulties, promote socio-economic development and improve people's lives.
To effectively implement cooperation in the 2026-2030 period, Gia Lai province proposes to continue to strengthen political trust, maintain delegation exchanges at all levels; improve the effectiveness of cooperation in key areas; implement programs and projects in a practical, effective, focused, and key direction; promote people-to-people exchanges, cultural and sports exchanges.
Gia Lai commits to continue to drastically direct departments, branches, and localities to closely coordinate with the southern provinces of Laos to effectively implement the signed cooperation contents, with the spirit of "helping friends is helping ourselves", developing together, and winning together," Mr. Pham Anh Tuan affirmed.
Mr. Thai Dai Ngoc - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee - emphasized that this is an important opportunity for Gia Lai province and southern Laos provinces to look back at the good cooperation journey in the past time.
According to Mr. Thai Dai Ngoc, after the merger, Gia Lai province will have more conditions to expand the cooperation space with the southern provinces of Laos on the basis of complementarity and joint development.
With advantages in agriculture - forestry, processing industry, trade - services and the ability to connect the Central Highlands region with the central coast of Vietnam, Gia Lai wishes to work with the southern provinces of Laos to promote stronger cooperation, creating new momentum for the socio-economic development of each locality.
Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary also said that in the early days of April, he will lead the provincial working delegation to visit and work with 4 southern provinces of Laos and wish the Lao people a traditional Bunpimay Tet, thereby continuing to cultivate the special solidarity and friendship between localities.
