Faced with the overload situation, many patients have to wait for a long time to have eye surgery, Khanh Hoa General Hospital has launched a large-scale surgical campaign with many drastic solutions.
In just 38 days, the entire 60-day surgery plan was completed, contributing to a sharp reduction in the number of backlogs and shortening waiting times for patients.
In the period from November 17, 2025 to December 18, 2025, the Ophthalmology Department performed a total of 596 surgeries, an increase of 162% compared to the average number of surgeries according to the 2025 plan.
Among them, there were 481 intraocular surgeries, mainly phaco surgery and artificial cataracts and some other specialized techniques; 115 extraocular surgeries such as mastectomy, angioplasty, and tumor removal.
In total, the Ophthalmology Department organized 23 surgical sessions, including 18 intraocular surgery sessions and 5 extraocular surgery sessions, including 2 intraocular Avastin injection sessions according to professional instructions.
Notably, the unit has proactively reviewed the patient list, contacted directly with 435 cases that were scheduled for surgery in the period from December 1, 2025 to March 17, 2026 to invite them for examination and early surgery.
As a result, 224 patients came for surgery, contributing to a significant reduction in the number of backlog cases, while improving patient satisfaction.
According to Khanh Hoa General Hospital, the eye surgery campaign not only brings clear professional results but also demonstrates a proactive and flexible spirit in operation, putting patients at the center.
In particular, in the early days of deployment, professional activities encountered many difficulties due to the impact of the historic flood, but the Ophthalmology Department still made efforts to overcome them so as not to disrupt medical examination and treatment work.
The results achieved continue to affirm the professional capacity, sense of responsibility and dedication of the medical staff, and at the same time show the determination of the Board of Directors of the Hospital in constantly improving the quality of medical services, meeting the health care needs of people in the province better and better.
