Recently, in Ho Chi Minh City, the 4th Vietnam Community Nutrition Day took place with the participation of 20 playing teams and thousands of people and visitors.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health said that scientific nutrition is not only disease prevention but also the key to sustainable development. Vietnam has achieved many successes in improving and enhancing the quality of nutrition for its people, however, there are still many challenges ahead.
The rate of malnutrition in mountainous areas remains high, with 38% of children honking in some areas. At the same time, the rate of overweight and obesity in urban areas such as Ho Chi Minh City has exceeded 20%, leading to an increased risk of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
In addition, the trend of consuming processed foods and soft drinks among young people is increasing, while physical exercise has not been focused on. This requires us to act more decisively, not only at the policy level but also in each family and each community, said the Deputy Minister of Health.
The Ministry of Health calls on people from today, everyone should start with small changes such as a healthier meal, an hour of exercise per day - to create a big change for the whole society. Agencies and organizations should continue to accompany the Ministry of Health, together building a healthy Vietnam, no longer burdened by nutrition or disease.
