Cabbage grows close to the ground and has tightly arranged leaf layers, creating favorable conditions for worms and insects to hide. Cleaning the layers of cabbage leaves thoroughly will help remove insects, dirt, pesticides and bacteria, ensuring fresh and safe vegetables for processing.
Remove outer leaves
Remove 2-3 outer leaves because this is the place most susceptible to dirt, insects and chemicals.
Cut cabbage into pieces
Cut cabbage into 2-4 parts. This helps open the layers of cabbage and easily detect hidden insects inside.
Soak in salt water
Soak chopped cabbage in warm salt water for about 10-15 minutes. Salt helps clean dirt and push insects and worm eggs out.
Use vinegar solution
Add 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar to a bowl of clean water and soak cabbage for 5-7 minutes. Vinegar helps increase antibacterial ability and remove impurities. Then rinse with water.
Wash thoroughly under running water
Wash cabbage 2-3 times to remove worms, salt, and dirt.
Last check
Gently separate each layer of leaves, observe carefully before cooking to ensure that the cabbage is completely clean.
